I have a number of friends who serve in that same capacity for our Air Force.

This post is not about the movie, but about the overall relationship of Black people and aviation (it's not a very good one).

This post neglected one important from the incomparable Rick Reilly of Sports Illustrated. He flew in an F-14 and had this to say:

"I should've known when they told me my pilot would be Chip (Biff) King of Fighter Squadron 213 at Naval Air Station Oceana in Virginia Beach. Whatever you're thinking a Top Gun named Chip (Biff) King looks like, triple it. He's about six-foot, tan, ice-blue eyes, wavy surfer hair, finger-crippling handshake -- the kind of man who wrestles dyspeptic alligators in his leisure time. If you see this man, run the other way. Fast."

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/inside_game/magazine/life_of_reilly/news/1999/09/14/life_of_reilly/

Jumping doesn't count as flying.Stuff Black People Don't Likehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07923871032509110194noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3890530692790573387.post-4926481657059374832009-10-10T08:09:16.779-07:002009-10-10T08:09:16.779-07:00Just for the record the Black "pilot" in...Just for the record the Black "pilot" in Top Gun was in fact a RIO (Radar Intercept Officer) not a Naval Aviator but a Naval Flight Officer.
