About four years ago, I stood in the family room holding my .357 as a negro tried prying the screen on my porch door. Was not at night, but in the afternoon. Something spooked him, and off he went. Filed a police report, but they never caught him. This, along with five other "incidents" that I know of, in a 99 percent white neighborhood over a four year period and they all involved blacks.
The quote made me chuckle, but, alas, so true.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3890530692790573387.post-30312960902984088692016-02-16T15:45:23.807-08:002016-02-16T15:45:23.807-08:00Try limit your advice to what you know; pizza deli...Try limit your advice to what you know; pizza delivery places comp for gas. If you're delivering pizza and you aren't being comped for gas, you're an idiot.

Dave's advice is sound. I doubt he'd break down racial reality for his listeners, even if the cultural Stasi wouldn't come for him, but he doesn't have to; any idiot knows you don't take a job delivering pizza in a high-crime area, especially if you're white.

If you can drive legally, then chances are someone is paying for your insurance, so you're not incurring any extra costs by taking a job delivering pizzas, except for wear and tear on your vehicle. Jap cars are reliable (I just bought a 99 Toyota not too long ago for $500, had cosmetic damage and plenty of little cosmetic things that needed fixing, but it ran fine) and run forever, buy one.

Pizza delivery guys make minimum wage plus tips. In a decent area (it's easily worth commuting to deliver in an affluent area - there's a decent area near everyone. If not, move.) you can make decent tips. I gave the guy who delivered two crappy warm-ish Papa John's pizzas on Super Bowl Sunday a $5 tip on a $20 order. I always tip well, though I'm not at all wealthy - I just don't use services if I can't afford to tip well. If you're busy enough and can deliver two orders an hour, you should make like $5 extra an hour (added to $6 an hour min., or whatever it is now), with the occasional generous tip as extra. That can average out to $10 an hour for a 20 hour a week part time job, or another $200 bucks in your pocket (only about half of it taxable). And all the work is in the evenings, so it goes great with a 9-5 or daylight-based first job. That's another $1000 a month going against debts or bills, nothing to sneeze at. And you get all the free pizza you can eat. Hell, if you aren't averaging enough delivering pizzas on slow days, go with Uber instead.

Plus the job's a hell of a lot easier now with GPS holding your hand. I had to mess with maps and get out of the car constantly to check illegible addresses and get lost n sheit.

I mean what are you guys, morons?

And whether you're delivering pizzas or not, stay safe. CCW whenever possible. Keep a small folder on your person, and a first aid & trauma kit (including CAT bandage, Israeli Bandage, whatever's your preference), multitool, flashlight, 2 big jars of peanut butter, and a couple gallons of bottled water (in the small bottles) wrapped or bagged in your trunk. Hide a spare cell phone and battery somewhere in the trunk where you can get to it quickly, too.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3890530692790573387.post-9063655187721934502016-02-16T09:04:38.875-08:002016-02-16T09:04:38.875-08:00OT and a follow-up to Aa post bt "Miss Greenb...OT and a follow-up to Aa post bt "Miss Greenbaum and the colored sows with hope she worked. White kids' parents bought their kids computers, Black kids parents bought them sneakers (or nothing). White schools were teaching computers, Black schools weren't. So the push was on to equip Black schools with computers, networks and they're going to teach black kids how to do computers.

So my company, a telephone company, got a contract with Baltimore City Schools to install cabling, new phone systems and personal computers in all the classrooms. We couldn't make any progress, it was a money loser from the start. They broke into our trucks while we were inside working, they stole the computers, cabling and supplies when we were out for the night, at Malcolm X and Martin Luther King elementary schools, they stole the phone systems. After the second break in on my truck, I quit the company I was working for. I figured sooner or later, I'd come out when they were in the middle of a break in. I had a concealed carry permit in Virginia, but it was no good in Baltimore, of course. So I quit.

Looking back, it was obviously a harbinger of things to come in Baltimore, a city that supposedly "reads", but more accurately, bleeds. He is right so many times. To me it's unfortunate Dave Ramsey should be blamed in any way for this tragedy. He serves a valuable purpose - giving sound financial advice we all need to heed and giving kudos to those who have controlled their escalating spending habits. If our COUNTRY took his advice - about spending within your means - we wouldn't have a trillions-dollar debt that is still growing. A not-so-subtle message behind this article is blaming the responsible victim who gets a minimum-wage job to go to college or pay off debt. He's the victim, not the cause. It is the THUGS who prey upon those going into their neighborhoods who need to be punished and controlled and the fault is THEIRS and those who give them free rein, not somebody writing a book or responsible people who work.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3890530692790573387.post-87214961081199121352016-02-15T03:29:47.693-08:002016-02-15T03:29:47.693-08:00Today's feel good story!

Some years ago...I really have to share this story:

Some years ago I lived in CT and would occasionally have to commute into NYC on the Metro North New Haven line. Practically every train into and out of Grand Central stops at the 125th Street station in Harlem. So, one day on the way home, two black teens got on at 125th Street carrying a large cardboard box. It must have been three feet each side and it was obviously pretty heavy. You don’t see something like that every day but this was NYC and besides, the kids were polite as they manhandled the box over by the doors away from the platform. We left 125th Street and the train switched to the express track and headed off to CT where the first stop would be Stamford. As we went past one station after another the kids got more and more nervous looking. One of them was walking up and down the aisle with his right hand inside his jacket as if he had a gun in a shoulder holster. At this point I and some other passengers began to take notice. Finally we got to Stamford and the train stopped but the doors didn’t open. The conductor announced over the PA that they were having some difficulty with the door controls and that it shouldn’t be long before it was fixed. When the doors opened about a minute or so later the Stamford cops rushed in, grabbed the two dindus and their box and hauled them away.

It turned out that the two had robbed some store on 125th Street and had taken the entire cash register. They hauled their box up the stairs to the station and got on the first northbound train that came along. They probably had planned to get off somewhere in the Bronx and disappear with the cash register. Unfortunately for them they hopped on an express instead of a local. The store people called the NYPD who learned that the kids had hopped a train. The cops then called Metro North and Metro North called all of their north bound trains with a description of the dindus. Our train crew called back and said they were in car number ####, Nth car from the front. The NYPD called the Stamford PD and the Stamford PD arranged a welcoming committee for the two strategic geniuses.PvtCharlieSlatenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3890530692790573387.post-54166518759925190282016-02-14T23:56:31.371-08:002016-02-14T23:56:31.371-08:00About a mile or less, south of Detroit in Lincoln ...About a mile or less, south of Detroit in Lincoln Park a pizza joint halted deliveries
across the Outer Dr. boundary that separates the two cities.
We all know why.
The story was covered by 2,4,&7 and to my surprise the owner wasn't painted in a negative light! Dave Ramsey is an entertainer, just like Rush Limbaugh and everyone else on mainstream radio. He says what makes people feel good and sells a lot of advertising, his financial advice is crap.

Driving beater cars, for instance, makes sense if you can work on them yourself and have the time and tools to do so. Repairs on modern cars are so expensive that any savings on insurance and car payments can be wiped out by a leaking oil seal, a blown head gasket, ABS brake issues, et al. And if you wreck or it is stolen or has an unecomic to repair mechanical fail, you need to have enough cash on hand to buy a new beater....which always is tough to find when you need one. The Obama clunker junker program destroyed so many of the best working man beater cars the shortage is still with us.

And if there are car inspections in your state, keep in mind you have to keep it smog worthy, unless it's an antique. I can't remember the exact details but it had to do with either not using a safe or not dropping the money in when they got over a certain amount in the drawer. When I worked at a gas station, you were supposed to make a safe drop (via a slot) every time you took in $100 cash, so that in theory in a robbery the most that could be stolen was perhaps $200.

Which is one thing, for as dumb as they are, they sure manage to figure out who they can rob for the most cash and the word gets around.

As an aside, someone mentioned not being able to find cheap cars. Must not be looking hard enough. Almost every car I've owned going back 20 years has been a cheap beater. Some were bought at auctions (both private and municipal), some through Craigslist. Never spent more than $1000; one I only paid $50 for, and one many years ago was a freebie. After the first couple I always tried to stick to a Chevy with TBI so I could rob parts from one to use on the next. Some of them were worth more in parts than I paid for the vehicle. One of them I drove from NY to SC twice, put 2500 miles on it in a week both times - I actually went to a couple of pick-a-part yards on those trips and was taking pieces off vans that were in better shape than the one I'd driven there in.

Which is the other thing, scrap is way down right now, $100 or so a ton, so it should be that much easier to buy something - even if you had to spend $1500 on a reman engine for it, you're still in good shape. The better the body the more it's worth spending on. The only reason I've gone through so many is they salt the roads in the winter and it rusts them out pretty badly. Maybe I have to fix one or two things to drive them, but for the most part I've never spent a lot on any of them. You just set a budget, if it costs more than say $1500 to fix, pass and get another.

The bar owner where my realist friend works finally saw the light. No more hip-hop, the number of songs using the magic N-word that you can only speak if it applies to you has dropped way back, and they discontinued Hennessy - which apparently is the most effective thing. So far the nights I've been there the crowds have been a lot less dark.

Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3890530692790573387.post-90273686306331064272016-02-14T19:53:21.859-08:002016-02-14T19:53:21.859-08:00Dom M.
