The Northwest Republic will operate with no internal taxes whatsoever, basing all of its income on tariffs. Some things will always be taxed, such as oil and oil products, which we do not have in the Northwest. In Washington State, we do not have an income tax already, only a Federal Income Tax. Under a Swiss system, where every male citizen is a Soldier serving Defensively, costs are greatly reduced. No exploratory wars, etc.

This system does two things:

1. It encourages the people of the Homeland to build their own devices and to care for the ones they have, buying quality over quantity, as Jefferson found in the early 1800's. The Pennsylvania rifle is a perfect example. While precision machines and large projects might require products from outside the homeland, most will use what we have here.

2. As many have noted, this blog is an education in itself.

Yes, I definitely prefer white voices. Big surprise, no? One of the things I like best about that Celtic Woman link is what I think of as "pure" voices.

I made the connection between vibrato and audibility in a large auditorium, but I had it backwards. I thought it was straining to be heard at long distance that wrecked the voice. You live and learn.

Ironic personal anecdote: I had no interest in music until I heard Elvis Presley sing for the first time. Then it was just as Bob Dylan described the experience - "like getting out of jail" (yes, I'm an incurable lowbrow). Anyway, Elvis got called up for the Army, and when he came back, it wasn't the same. He had that vibrato. I thought he might have ruined his voice shouting on the parade ground. Somebody told me Elvis had been taking singing lessons, but I said, No, it's not just a change of style; his voice has changed. He never made anything worthwhile after that.

You younger people who can't understand the fuss about Elvis: that's because you never knew the young Elvis, in his context. All you know is fat old Elvis from Las Vegas. Trust me, you had to be there. And, as they themselves acknowledged, if there had not been Elvis, there would not have been Dylan or the Beatles (not that that's a bad thing...).

Sheila4g, did you previously post here as Sheila? While there are the usual music snobs and reviewers, a great deal of preference re singing and voices is personal choice only. I, too, intensely dislike excessive vibrato, and there are some opera singers with lovely voices who use only minimal amounts. I'm thinking here specifically of my favorite recording of Mozart's "The Magic Flute" (one of the few operas I listened to and actually enjoyed). While an online review refers to merely a "solid, secure technique," I think the Dutch coloratura soprano Cristina Deutekom as Queen of the Night was stupendous.

I find my musical tastes in keeping with Pat's comment - I love Renaissance music (not always the singing but always the music with lute, sackbutt, etc.) and have a number of tapes (yes, I'm that old - from my college years) including some well-done pieces written by Henry VIII!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3890530692790573387.post-26686245551300033232015-12-04T12:04:19.197-08:002015-12-04T12:04:19.197-08:00By the way, the purpose of the Income Tax was not ...By the way, the purpose of the Income Tax was not to raise revenue for the Government. I try to stay on the themes of this blog whenever I comment here, but if asked I will answer. I white more comments on vocal issues than any other, but not here.

You seem to like what is called 'white' voices - that is voices without color or vibrato. If that's what you like - fine but today most classical singers have more vibrato. That wasn't always the case. Renaissance music was probably done with the white sexless voices of pre-teen boys. More recently many opera singer had was is called 'caprina' which means goat. These singers had a goat like fast vibrato. But caprina went out of style in the twenties. Lauri-Volpi had it in his early mechanical recording but re-trained his voice to eliminate it for his electrical recordings. He later taught Corelli how to eliminate his. Most opera singers adopted the vocal approach of Caruso. Earlier tenors had straighter voices with less vibrato but took on Caruso's darker, richer sound. Maria Callas had a similar effect among coloratura sopranos.

All of these vibrato approaches revolve around the simple issue of being heard in a large space. Opera singers can be heard unamplified because of the 'fourth formant'. Classical singers produce a singer's formant that is not present in normal speech. This is a frequency bump in the overtones about 2700 hertz. Unless you have the formant you won't be heard on stage above an orchestra.

Hope this helps. Don't be bullied by the voice snobs. Everyone on this blog is well mannered. But go on YouTube and say something critical about Pavarotti and you get death threats.

Pat Pat Boylehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13477950851915567863noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3890530692790573387.post-36617242063267883412015-12-04T03:07:39.611-08:002015-12-04T03:07:39.611-08:00"What think you of this list of changes?"..."What think you of this list of changes?"

Without taking the power of a private banking cartel to create money to buy government debt, they won't be effective even if they could be enacted. If that dream finally dies, then another, healthier, saner one can be born. Religion, though, is a powerful driver of human behavior, and this anti-racist dream has been brought to birth by Christian misconceptions of the nature of man, along with other forces. Just how powerful religion can be has been shown repeatedly in just the last few weeks; and again a couple of days ago in San Bernardino. Where are the "conservative" Christians willing to die for their beliefs? Some of you claim to be those kind of Christians. What's the matter? Don't you have the sack? Ante up! But from all that I've ever seen, Christians of any stripe mainly focus their suicidal aspirations on exterminating their own race. The Christian counterpart of the Islamic suicide bomber is a church-goer active in bringing immigrants into his country; active in the so-called "civil rights" movement; active in speaking out tirelessly against "racism", which he takes to be the greatest of sins. The suicide of the West is a Christian one, led by its churches and its secularized Christian culture of equality.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3890530692790573387.post-76800435073264291072015-12-03T19:27:13.460-08:002015-12-03T19:27:13.460-08:00Anon suggests:

Healthcare specialists, pharmacists, accountants, lawyers, etc. Civil engineers can find work anywhere. We constantly hear the cries of "I can't move away from the black plague because muh job". Tradesmen don't say this, people with the right degrees don't say this.

At the end of the day, you can't eat a blueprint, an accounting ledger, or a database and if your toilet is gushing raw sewage at 1 in the morning you will pay absolutely ANYTHING to have it stop. As things get worse in this country (which I'm sure they will). You'd do well to consider what career paths are really recession proof.

PaintJob Theorynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3890530692790573387.post-55845841945405953612015-12-03T18:43:44.192-08:002015-12-03T18:43:44.192-08:00The jealous, hostile sergeant with an inferiority ...The jealous, hostile sergeant with an inferiority complex constantly harps: "Hell no, I ain't no officer, I work for a livin'." A word to...@ Anonymous December 3, 2015 at 4:46 PM

A word to the wise is sufficient. I have several words for you.

I guess you missed this part: "Some college grads are realists and I don't see why one needs to alienate them from the movement, so to speak. Anybody who went through that much intense indoctrination and rejected it has something going for him."

I sometimes wonder about the divisive people on the realist websites. I wonder whether they are Sayanim or paid shills. Perhaps they are slightly, ever so slightly, cleverer than average negroes sowing discord amongst the realists. Awakened Saxonnoreply@blogger.com
