According to BRPD Police Chief Murphy Paul, murders, shootings and other incidents involving violent crime in Baton Rouge is skyrocketing.
In an effort to bring that percentage down, Paul is using a new initiative by visiting local barbershops.

"Things like going to barbershops... Where we know young black men get their haircuts and have conversations, no cameras, no media. Let's have honest dialogue about our responsibility on how to address this crime problem."
During Chief Paul's address at the Press Club this afternoon, Paul revealed that these incidents are part of a socio-economic epidemic, targeting young black males.
Chief Paul went on to reveal that last year 83 percent of the suspects in homicides were African-American males.
Violent crime in the black community is a problem stemming from the war on drugs.
"The crack cocaine epidemic could have been different, because the reality is we have not rebounded from it, that's why we face some of the issues with some of the black males we're dealing with," Paul explained.
That's why they're out on the streets with organizations like Truce, a private organization funded to help to reduce violence and crime committed by young people.
This year so far, officials have made arrests in 71 percent of those homicides, a number in which the chief is pleased with. However, the department has a shortage of nearly 60 officers.
"Police officers have to come in on their days off, and that is a challenge. Once we get those numbers up, our goal is that police officers won't have to work as often and they can be rested up and spend that time with their family," said Paul.
Chief Paul thinks this will help solve the long term problem, but in the short term, they need to hire 60 officers.

I don't quiet understand black barbershops. There are several movies placed in black barbershops - Eddie Murphy and Ice T movies. But I can't think of a single movie about whites in a barber shop. There are more movie scenes about sitting on the toilet or urinating than white barbershop scenes. I don't think I've ever seen another man pee or poop in person, since I got out of the Army. Maybe at the gym. I've seen plenty of white men get haircuts in barbershops or styling salons but not in the movies. Blacks are funny. Movies too.

Tennessee mom says too many hot chips led to daughter having gallbladder removed
MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- A Tennessee mother has a warning after she says her daughter's gallbladder was removed, and she believes it's because of hot snacks.
"When my daughter had to have this surgery, I knew I had to tell everybody about it," Rene Craighead said.
Wildly popular hot snacks such as like Hot Cheetos, Takis and Hot Fries are getting snatched off of shelves. The hot chips are at virtually any convenience store.
Craighead said the doctor told her hot chips were behind the stomach problems her 17-year-old daughter was having.
"She loves them. Every time I go out she says, 'Bring me back some Hot Takis, bring me back some Hot Chips.' I want to make her happy, so I brought them back. She was eating big bags and would take them to school with her," Craighead said.
Her daughter, also named Rene, started feeling sick to her stomach. That soon led to surgery and the removal of her gallbladder.
"I was surprised that my daughter was sick like that," the mother said.
It's not just the taste that makes them appealing. The hot snacks cost about $1 for a regular size bag. The girl estimates she was eating about four bags of hot snacks a week.
Dr. Cary Canvender, a gastroenterologist at Le Bonheur Children's Hospital, said there's a lot of factors that go into having a gallbladder removed.
But he believes eating the chips probably contributed.
"We do see tons of gastritis and ulcer-related stuff due to it," he said.
The doctor said the number of children they see with stomach problems because of the chips is staggering.
"We probably see around 100 kids a month, easily," he said.
Cavender advises that parents monitor their child's diet and load up on fruits and vegetables.
In a statement regarding Takis, Buchanan Public Relations released a statement saying:
"We assure you that Takis are safe to eat, but should be enjoyed in moderation as part of a well-balanced diet. Takis ingredients fully comply with U.S. Food and Drug Administration regulations, and all of the ingredients in each flavor are listed in detail on the label. Always check the serving size before snacking."
The company added it takes complaints very seriously and is happy to connect with the customer.
Frito-Lay, the maker of Cheetos, also responded, saying:
“At Frito-Lay, food safety is always our number one priority, and our snacks meet all applicable food safety regulations as well as our rigorous quality standards. Some consumers may be more sensitive to spicy foods than others and may choose to avoid spicier snacks due to personal preference.”

Has anyone sat down and asked how effective are these initiatives in actually stopping black perpetrated violence? The candlelight vigils, the backyard BBQs. the cake sales, the prayer meetings and now barbershop quartets (or whatever). All these things have been tried, yet black crime still appears to be on the rampage.
Then again, consider that back in the 1950s-60s the solution to black crime was supposed to be integration and war on poverty. Well, those programs were tried and we have seen nothing but non-stop mayhem in their wake: not just crime but gangbanging, long hot summer riots and the devastation of several major American cities.

One man between the ages of 20 and 25 was found shot, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.
A night of peace ended in tragedy Saturday night due to a fatal shooting on Jacksonville's Eastside.
Police and emergency crews were gathered at the corner of A. Philip Randolph and 1st St. just before 10 p.m. after shots rang out following the Stop the Violence gathering to protest gun violence in the community.

Hundreds, possibly thousands, showed up for the gathering and some still lingered for a block party once the event ended. It was during the block party that the shooting started. The block party was not connected to the Stop the Violence gathering.

I got news for them..............any person of any race with a low IQs has a much greater chance of ending up in a socio-economic dilemma because they are cognitively incapable of assimilating into that society in a manner that would exercise fiscal responsible.....

Black far and away by percentage within their race have a lot more members of those room temperature IQs than the other races do....
