In movies, the antagonist never has a sympathetic motive to justify their perfidious actions and villainy. They epitomize evil and they must be stopped. A good film (or story) requires equilibrium though, so the criminal must have a protagonist to battle who will ultimately vanquish them into perdition.
We all love happy endings and novels, movies, and myths provide us with this required denouement, the hero conquering all odds and defeating his mortal enemy. Cue triumphant, orchestral music and end credits.
The real world is far different than the stories one reads and watches. All around us are real life incidents of the scoundrel, the criminal and the thug. Absent are the heroes, those predisposed to eradicating evil and fighting its every manifestation.
The state of our world has never been more thoroughly analyzed than in the film Last Action Hero. In the movie, a magic ticket has allowed characters from film to enter into our world. Whereas the bad guy is always stopped in movies, the villain points out the opposite occurs in our world:
Benedict: Gentlemen. Since you are about to die anyway, I may as well tell you the entire plot. Think of villains Jack. You want Dracula? Dra-cool-la? Hang on
[takes out the ticket]
Benedict: , I'll fetch him. Dracula? Huh. I can get King Kong! We'll have a nightmare with Freddy Krueger, have a surprise party for Adolf Hitler, Hannibal Lecter can do the catering, and then we'll have christening for Rosemary's Baby! All I have to do is snap my fingers and they'll be here. They're lining up to get here, and do you know why Jack? Should I tell you why? Hmm? Because here, in this world, the bad guys can win!
Recall the Joker in the 1989 version of Batman: Using his knowledge of chemicals, he decides to disfigure women with acid in an insane plan to reinvent the definition of beauty.
His plan is ultimately foiled. In the real world though, the bad guys win:
A 28-year-old woman severely burned when a stranger threw an acid-like liquid in her face was listed in serious condition in a Oregon hospital.
Bethany Storro, of Vancouver, Wash., was getting something out of her car in downtown Vancouver when the attack happened Monday evening, her mother Nancy Neuwelt told The Oregonian.
Neuwelt said a young woman walked up to her daughter, said: "Hey pretty girl, do you want to drink this?" and tossed a cup of liquid in Storro's face.
"I’m a nice girl and I don’t know why this happened," Storro, 28, said Tuesday in her hospital room in the Oregon Burn Center at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland, The Columbian newspaper reported….
Vancouver police spokeswoman Kim Kapp said doctors and authorities were trying to determine what kind of substance caused Storro's facial burns.
Police said the assailant was described as a black woman between 25 and 35, who wore a green shirt and khaki shorts, The Columbian reported. She had medium-length black hair that was pulled back.
The bad guys win in this world. The indifference of good men ensures this eventuality, everywhere:
With painful honesty, Katie Piper, the former TV presenter tells why she has finally waived her right to anonymity – and reveals the awful events that changed her life for ever
However much she would like to forget them, the details of how she lost her dreams, her identity and very nearly her life will stay with Katie Piper for ever.
They are burned into both her memory and her face. Katie, 26, has remained fearful and anonymous in the 18 months since the man she met on the internet attempted to destroy her, so few will recognise her name.
But the facts of the case – the rape, the vengeful boyfriend Daniel Lynch, the cup of industrial-strength sulphuric acid – are all too familiar, a cause of anger and revulsion when they were revealed in court earlier this year.
It was an added cruelty that Katie’s world had revolved around her beauty. She modelled for catalogues and magazines, presented television programmes and had dreamed of a full-time career in the media.
In our world, the bad guys win. It’s only in movies, books and stories that heroes rise to fight villainy and work tirelessly to eradicate it.
And it will only get worse, before it starts to get better.

I can give you a really big reason why blacks are so violent and sub-human. I just shopped at an inner-city Walgreens, and there were two young welfare queens with a young child shopping for cold medicine. One of the women had a big pregnant belly with her tight jeans unzipped with a cropped top. The baby was probably nearly 2 years and walking, ragged clothin, matted hair, and dried snot all over his face. He said "Hi" to me and waved, then said "Do you see me?? Do you see me lady??" His mother snapped him up by his little arm and gritting her teeth and spitting in his face, told him that she was going to tear his ass up, then repeatedly told him to "shut the fuck up". Her black friend was laughing the entire time. The "mother" then said that she was going to "reach up in his ass" if he did not shut up. She kept saying things like "I gonna hit you" and "I'm gonna get up in your ass." When my son was that age, he was riding in a baby carrier, nursing happily, and as a human mother, I was constantly hugging and kissing him. He is not 11, a smart, wonderful, and affectionate kid. Her child has no chance in hell to even grow up human. I felt like saying something to her, but she would probably cut my face up or tear my hair out, and I realized that she and most all black women and men are just helping to quicken the eventual demise of the black race.
I have seen another young black mother tell her child to come off the sidewalk when I passed on my bike because he "might scare that white lady." Blacks know the deal, don't ever believe they don't. And yes, the woman at Walgreens stuffed the meds in her purse and walked out. I am disgusted.
Usually this is a Muslim punishment for women doled out by men. It usually happens in places like Pakistan Bangladesh India and Englandistan.
Perhaps divine teaching was at work here, perhaps the almighty wanted to give her a tutorial on race realism but not at the cost of her eyes, hence the sunglasses, Just a hypothesis. The Lord works in mysterious ways. The African in question had probably lost a black boyfriend to a white girl.
Good God! There are so many things to unpack in this story.
First of all, why is this woman and her mother so completely befuddled as to why this attack happened? Black women hate white women. That is the reason.
Second, to state that acid attacks “happen all the time in the Middle East” is to confuse the issue. Vancouver is not the Middle East.
Why are white people so afraid to admit that blacks attack us because we are white?
People need to start packing heat. I'm off to the local gun range tomorrow. I wonder why all those targets are black. Maybe there is a conspiracy afoot.
What I have noticed about this story is that most media outlets running it, don't mention a description of the perp. Im sure if it was the other way around, the speculation on if it was a racist attack would be the headlining issue of the story.
But then again, there has to be to some degree, sociopathy/psychopathy mental illness already in a person to do such a random thing, regardless of race.
I was debating on how I should comment on this piece. I was torn between trying to rationalize the motive. Then I saw a photo of the victim. The explanation is as clear as the 500 pound gorilla in the living room that DWL cannot see.
The savagery of blacks knows no bounds. it has no end and as soon as you think you've heard the worse another story comes up that shatters your imagination.
Nothing and I mean nothing will ever convince me that these creatures--and yes mark my words they are creatures will ever peacefully integrate into human society.
I've seen their mindless violence around the world. Their own "leaders" recognize it. South Africa is griped in strikes and violence every day, worse now than ever. Not a single word is mentioned in the news. Keep a watchful eye on SA because it is Americas future.
God, I dream of fascism.
A fascist state is the only thing that can cleanse this sewer.
Well beware about the differences.
A thing is a black disfiguring a random white person just for fun and knowing every cop, every judge and every journalist is on its side.
Another totally thing is a white woman who choose to go with one of them (the "boyfriend"). She choose it, with the whole package.
I do not mix those.
Anon 8:40AM,
Don't drink and post. I have no idea what you are saying?!
Last Action Hero was a much better movie than it ever got credit for. Yes it was campy, but that was the point. It made many great points.
Re: Last Action Hero (1993), which I just bought and watched because of this post ... it does make good points, including exactly the point Stuff Black People Don't Like says it makes.
It falls short of what it could have been because Jack Slater's world is so lighthearted and un-serious that it seems hard to believe that Danny Madigan would have found Jack comforting and inspiring.
People take comfort and draw inspiration from movies and heroes that are presented as "real" and "relevant" and that people react to emotionally as if they were real. But these "realistic" heroes and dramas are every bit as "fake" as Jake Slater.
A few days ago I was talking to a friend who dismissed criticism of the way things are headed in America as racist, because (he said) things have not changed fundamentally in America since Atticus Finch had to stand against the racist mass of Whites and for the innocent Black man. To be heroes, or at least to be as good as we can be, that is where we still have to take our stand today.
In other words, as he understands it, To Kill a Mockingbird (1962) is simply true, both as history and moral instruction, as valid in our day as it was then. If I had directed him here for some facts that his morally instructive movies had not made him aware of, he would have refused to learn anything except that I am irredeemably racist and must be shunned, because he's living in a fictional world and that's how his fictions have taught him to react. And he knows he's right, because history validated the correct point of view. We know who won!
Last Action Hero (1993) isn't pompous about how edifying and "true" it is, but it is far more on the mark. The way it is in movies is not the way it is in the real world. The bad guys can win.
