So is This Why Black People Want Marijuana Legalized?
A 21-year-old woman is accused of forcing her 2-year-old daughter to smoke marijuana.
Jessica Gamble of Roselawn is held at the Hamilton County jail in lieu of $10,000 bond. She faces one count of corrupting another with drugs. Gamble forced the child to smoke the drug on June 12 at a residence in the 7400 block of Edgemont Drive, according to the Hamilton County prosecutor's office.
Video of the incident, captured on Gamble's cellphone, was given to Hamilton County Department of Job and Family Service, the prosecutor's office stated in a news release.
“It is unbelievable to watch on video a mother teaching her 2-year-old child how to smoke a joint," Prosecutor Joseph Deters said. "There are just some people who should never have children.”
The child has been placed with another relative while caseworkers investigate, according to Brian Gregg, spokesman for Job and Family Services. A second person also was charged in connection with the alleged incident. Information on that suspect was not available.
Legalizing marijuana is a civil rights issue, according to one of California's most prominent African-American advocacy groups.
The California State Conference of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, led by President Alice Huffman, recently announced its "unconditional endorsement" for Proposition 19, a legislative initiative on the November ballot that would legalize the recreational use of marijuana in California.
Huffman said African-Americans are disproportionately affected by the criminalization of marijuana which makes passing the law a civil rights issue.
"We have empirical proof that the application of the marijuana laws has been unfairly applied to our young people of color," Huffman said in an official statement.
Police departments in California have made more than 60,000 marijuana possession arrests in 2008, three times more than in 1990, according to a recent study released by the Drug Policy Alliancean organization that says it promotes policies to end the war on drugs. Although blacks and Latinos make up less than 44 percent of the state's population, together both ethnic groups constitute up to 56 percent of arrests that are made for marijuana possession in California, according to the study.
Furthermore, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has found that African-Americans use marijuana at lower rates than white Americans across the country.
The study said arrests in California are "racially-biased" and have led to a "system-wide phenomenon, occurring in every county and nearly every police department in California, and elsewhere."
As revolting as this video is I must say that all drugs should be legalized. The War On Drugs is inherently unwinnable and wastes lives and taxpayers money.
Legalize the stuff if you want. But don't do it under the illusion that legalization will reduce crime. Sure, the courts will be cleared of pushers and users immediately. But there will still be drug users and abusers committing property crimes -- burglary, robbery, larceny --to get the money to buy their next bump from their friendly neighborhood "drug" store.
What the hell. Why not legalize burglary and robbery while we're at it. Property crime has practically become a misdemeanor in the last 30 or 40 years anyway.
There is no crime attributable to marijuana other than selling or possessing it. With that being said a simple reason more blacks are arrested isnt because of racism but simply the fact that blacks stand out on the street corners selling it. When a community allows the open selling of drugs its going to have the most arrests.
This is just more liberal bandaging that doesn't SOLVE the problem.
You could legalize all drugs and it'd still wouldn't cure black pathologies. Hell, for that matter, you could abolish the concept of law and crimes and it still wouldn't cure a thing. In the end, plenty American blacks would find a way to blame white people for the next issue while taking all the credit for any success that happens.
Mencken - Al Capone may have been brought down by Elliot Ness, but it was the 18th Amendment which ultimately brought organized crime under wraps.
Black markets, pun intended, will always operate in the shadows of civilized society. The invisible hand of capitalism is the only force that can illuminate these darkened quarters. Legalization begets regulation and thus taxation, a win win for all parties if you can get past the "moral" qualms of recreational drug use. (miller time anyone? or maybe some jack daniels?)
Imagine a world where Pfizer teamed up with Monsanto to mass produce cannabis for recreational use. With their economies of scale it is easy to fathom that they could collapse the price of the drug by 95%, meaning that is less revenue going into the south american/central american dealers and their north american street pharmaceutical sales reps.
So Mencken, if indeed you harbor resentment towards the melanin enhanced, as I strongly suspect, then I would think you would relish at the opportunity to collapse their ill begotten source of income.
I hate to sound libertarian, but there is absolutely no reason to criminalize cannabis, especially while drinking poison is still legal (Bill Hicks gives a worthy lecture here.) Legalize cannabis and more than half of the DEA goes away overnight. Win-win.
Also, we must differentiate between cannabis, a plant that grows freely in the earth, and the sort of drugs that people murder and maim to get more of.
This is actually a pretty good lesson for SBPDL and provides fodder for another entry: The high prevalence of Black crime makes stories like this believable.
For better or worse, this is the situation we find ourselves in.
Recall this story of a white guy donning a Black mask:
Okay, this story is not a hoax but I've seen things similar with white criminals on 'Nancy Grace'. So...your point is?
Black people do smoke weed frequently (my aunt and uncle do), it seems, although--because I enjoy people watching--I caught my white next door neighbors smoking weed, holding the joint in a tweezer, no less. However, I wonder if they'd ever be hassled for possession. I don't know if marijuana possession is a civil rights issue but there exists a link between race and arrest rates. Oh yeah, it's called racial profiling and, by extension, a legal system set up against PoC...

LMBAO! Just like how wrong you were with the World Cup, if you continually use certain stories for ad hominem attacks against black people, you will come out looking like an ass sometimes.
Go ahead and try to save face by saying the stories are believable given 'black behavior' but that is the folly of the Glenn Becks of the world, appealing to people's 'knees'. Yikes!
Desiree - one reason I love sports so much is that I love to gamble, and that entails looking at the numbers to assess probability. In sports gambling, if you are right even 57% of the time you can make a fortune. SBPDL sure as hell doesn't bat a thousand, but he is well above 500. I mean, if you really want to find someone to rant for using stories to make ad homonym attacks against blacks, you should talk to the guy who runs Thug Report.
Like the "War on Terror", the "War on Poverty", the "War on Illiteracy"...
I have long vacillated on whether drugs should be legal or illegal. Pot heads are some of the most pathetic people on the planet, but so are alcoholics and the morbidly obese.
Anytime the United States government wages war on an abstraction, the results are catastrophic.
"Okay, this story is not a hoax but I've seen things similar with white criminals on 'Nancy Grace'. So...your point is?"
Deziree, when you consider the disproportionate rate of youth crime among blacks, clearly parenting is an area in which blacks need significant improvement.
Now hurry up and respond with "whites do it too", then add a few blame-whitey comments, followed by your idiotic habitual use of "LMBAO".
I mean, if you really want to find someone to rant for using stories to make ad homonym attacks against blacks, you should talk to the guy who runs Thug Report.
Or I could rant against (strong words) SBPDL, who has repeatedly cited Thugreport. Silly, silly.
Yeah, I get probability and all of that BS. Blah. Let me rejoice in his mistake, okay? When he's wrong, it's like an atomic explosion.
"Mencken - Al Capone may have been brought down by Elliot Ness, but it was the 18th Amendment which ultimately brought organized crime under wraps."
Brought under wraps? Organized crime still thrives. RICO, I think, was more effective.
"Legalization begets regulation and thus taxation, a win win for all parties if you can get past the "moral" qualms of recreational drug use."
Thanks, but I've got about all the regulation and taxation I can stand; and, really, having just made my quarterly tax payment this week, I don't feel like I've just participated in any "win-win" situation.
"So Mencken, if indeed you harbor resentment towards the melanin enhanced, as I strongly suspect, then I would think you would relish at the opportunity to collapse their ill begotten source of income."
Do point me to that part of my original post that leads you to suspect that I harbor any resentment to anyone, melanin enhanced or not. Or, in the alternative -- and it will be the alternative since you won't be able to -- accept my congratulations on winning Most Presumptuous on the Web This Week award.
Maximizing corporate profits, increasing the tax revenue, win-win situations, clearing the dockets . . . the rationalizations must be endless. But in the end it really comes down to a very simple excuse: "I want the weed to be legal."
There have been plenty of vicious crimes perpetrated by blacks against whites since the acid hoax. An example is the murder of 81-year old George Baker in Virginia. He was kicked and stomped by "teens to impress a girl."
We're bombarded with "drug of the week" deadly prescription poisons that only serve to bolster Big Pharmas portfolios and are taught to condone alcohol use through media/social agendas but ban a relatively benign weed with documented medicinal benefits. Once Big Government jells a strategy for widespread social acceptance of maryjane (see present day west coast for testing ground) and irons out supply/marketing/revenue issues, it will be available. I should think the government would be quite happy to continue keeping the masses drugged and compliant with this mega cash cow. We'll need more toys of course though.
THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE SAT HERE AND POSTED STUPID COMMENTS ON WHAT BLACK PEOPLE DONT LIKE, WHY DONT YOU TAKE THE LITTLE AMOUNT OF BRAIN YOU HAVE LEFT AND FIND A WAY TO TALK ABOUT THOSE WHO HAVE HARMED CHILDREN OR KILLED INNOCENT PEOPLE. TO THE IGNORANT PERSON WHO STARTED THIS WEBSITE; YOU ARE A WASTE OF YOUR FATHER REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN PLACED IN A NAPKIN AND FLUSHED. YOUR STUPIDTY SHOWS THAT YOUR NOT AS SMART AS YOU THINK YOU ARE, NEITHER ARE THE STUPID FOLLOWERS.... WOW.. YOU PEOPLE NEED TO GET A GRIP, STOP WORRYING ABOUT THE COLOR AND START OOKING AT THE ISSUES AT HAND.. REMEMBER BLACK IS BEAUTIFUL NO MATTER WHAT. SO IF YOU HATE BLACK PEOPLE THAT MUCH.. WHY ARE YOU STILL HANGING OUT IN THE SUN? YOU ALL ARE COMPLETELY STUPID AND TWISTED.. I WOULD HAVE SAID GOD BLESS YOU BUT NOW I WILL ASK GOD TO EXCUSE YOU FROM SOCIETY BECAUSE OF YOUR STUPIDITY.....
Your comment represents everything this site stands for. Primarly your contradicting statements, which you try to fit into your ridiculous excuse for a post. First, you begin by yelling in "caps", which is a common trait amongst uneducated blacks in our counrty. There are educated, civalized black people(far and few between) your just not one of them.
IF black is beautiful I just shitted a masterpiece.
Drug laws amount to, in effect, a government grant of a lucrative black market franchise to thugs. Some people don't want tax money spent on that but rather on crimes where there is a real flesh-and-blood victim other than the accused.

I say this as a non drug using white libertarian.
As someone who has spent a brief amount of time in the Roselawn area, this comes as no surprise.
That being said, I agree with "Drug Laws Be Racist."

On an unrelated note Mr. SBPDL, I just saw this on Drudge. The acid attack was a hoax:

Weird story, last anon.
Reminds one of Susan Smith

However, the 2 year old smoking is no hoax.

Drug laws are ruthlessly enforced in the white suburbs. In the black ghettos the blacks openly sell and consume illegal drugs.
Drug laws amount to, in effect, a government grant of a lucrative black market franchise to thugs. Some people don't want tax money spent on that but rather on crimes where there is a real flesh-and-blood victim other than the accused.
There's a war on drugs, and the government is losing. That means drug addicts are winning the war.
