The other day, while driving in my car, I thought my ears deceived me when I heard my first advertisement for Mr. 50 Cent's SK Energy drink. Something about a wimpy "white man's voice" magically being, to borrow a phrase from Toure, 'niggerificationized' to that of the proud voice of a Black man with but a sip of the SK Energy drink.
Noticing that this was a far cry from the comment uttered in the upcoming films Django Unchained trailer - "Kill white folks, and they pay you for it? What's not to like?" - I did a quick Google search to verify that what my ears had heard regarding the SK Energy drinks magically powers of turning a boring old (wimpy) white dude into a Black person were true.
Here's what I found:

We already know that in an Absolut world, we'd all want to be like Kanye West. In Quentin Tarantino's new film Django Unchained, we know that "killing white folks"is an admirable, worthwhile pursuit.
We now know that white people have wimpy voices that can only be rectified by sipping SK Energy (Street King Energy for the uninitiated... but we are initiated, members of the SBPDL community) to instantly become 50 Cent, a rapper/entrepreneur that is proficient in throwing down with the shorties and macking on hood rats.

1. Inflation raises wages as well as prices, though wages generally lag behind.
2. I don't know. Aren't all private colleges "for profit"?
3. There aren't that many super star professors with extraordinary salaries, and given the ratio of students to full professors, salaries are a small percent of tuition.
Before WW2, elite colleges were expected to toughen up the rich mama's boys. For example, President Franklin Roosevelt couldn't see why housing built for poor people needed interior walls, since he had to make do with 5 foot high partitions when he went to school. Later, after WW2, the new schools were built with veterans in mind, men who were used to barracks living. But in the early '70s, college administrators pondering the unrest of the late '60s figured out that forcing middle class kids to live in slum conditions was a contributing factor to the riots. So, starting about 40 years ago, colleges have spent lots of money recreating the middle class living space and amenities that their customers expect.
Like I said, that's part of the increased cost. A large part.

I appreciate the kind words, and I agree completely about respecting (or at least tolerating) certain regional or personality differences. I had a theory that immersion in rapidly advancing technology clearly separated the younger generation from the older, but if you don't see this behavior in other countries, I'm at a loss.
Thanks for the laugh about Teutonic bluster. We're all about to get thrown into the same crucible, and I expect much of what truly does not matter will fall away pretty quickly. I wonder how we will appear when we emerge on the other side.
.50 needs to consider that it was the marketing prowess of wimpy white guys that helped him become more than he was by his own natural abilities--a drug dealing, uneducated, street thug. His wealth is largely due to other wimpy white guy gangsta wanna-be types who pay for the crap he peddles. Remove his disgusting wimpy white guy money and he would likely have to change his name to "Lemme hole' a dolla".
