Three more suspects connected to a mass shooting at the Bunny Friend Park in New Orleans have been identified by the New Orleans Police Department on Sunday (Dec.6). Two of whom are in custody, the third is being sought, according to an NOPD news release.
There are now eight named suspects, five of whom are in custody, according to police. All are expected to face 17 counts of attempted first-degree murder in the shooting that injured 17 people around 6:15 p.m. on Nov. 22. at the Gallier Street park.
Authorities said Sunday that Eddie "Eazy" Copelin, 20, Malik "Leaky" Johnson, 17, and Wilfred "Lil Wilfred" Celestine, 19 were identified by witnesses and through tips as suspects in the playground shooting.
Authorities are searching for Celestine. Johnson was arrested on an unrelated charge on November 24, and will be rebooked with the additional charges, according to authorities. Copelin was arrested Saturday night.
On Friday, detectives identified Michael "Mack" Allen, 29 and Lawrence "L" Veals, 19, Quendrick "C4" Bailey, 20, and Rashad "KMG EZZY" Walker, 22, as suspects in the shooting.
Authorities say Veals and Walker turned themselves into police and confessed to firing shots in the playground on Nov. 22. Joseph "Moe" Allen, 32, was arrested Nov. 28 and was the first suspect arrested and named in connection with the shooting.
Bailey and Michael "Mack" Allen are still wanted, authorities said.Though the New Orleans media will never ask, we'll go about and present the question: what percent of nonfatal shootings in New Orleans have a black suspect?
This same question should not only be asked, but answered for every large city in the United States of America so that an accurate picture of gun crime can be established.
