Chaser. [AIDS virus invaded U.S. from Haiti: study, Reuters, 10-30-2007]:
The AIDS virus invaded the United States in about 1969 from Haiti, carried most likely by a single infected immigrant who set the stage for it to sweep the world in a tragic epidemic, scientists said on Monday.
Michael Worobey, a University of Arizona evolutionary biologist, said the 1969 U.S. entry date is earlier than some experts had believed.
The timeline laid out in the study led by Worobey indicates that HIV infections were occurring in the United States for roughly 12 years before AIDS was first recognized by scientists as a disease in 1981. Many people had died by that point. One more round... From the UNAIDS site:
In 2016, Haiti had 7900 (6000 - 11 000) new HIV infections and 4600 (3500 - 6100) AIDS-related deaths. There were 150,000 (140 000 - 170 000) people living with HIV in 2016, among whom 55% (50% - 61%) were accessing antiretroviral therapy.
The key populations most affected by HIV in Haiti are:
- Sex workers, with an HIV prevalence of 8.4%.
- Gay men and other men who have sex with men, with an HIV prevalence of 18.2%.
Since 2010, new HIV infections have decreased by 25% and AIDS-related deaths have decreased by 24%.
- Prisoners, with an HIV prevalence of 4.3%.
Building on the results already achieved, the country will focus its efforts in the future on strengthening same-day antiretroviral therapy initiation and on rolling out viral load testing. Haiti will address stigma-related barriers to accessing HIV services, support efforts to eliminate mother-to-child transmission of HIV and advocate to create an enabling policy environment towards the 90–90–90 targets.
Does the mainstream media attacking Trump for allegedly saying something about Haitian immigrants truly want a debate about the reality of AIDS on the black island responsible for transmitting the virus to America in the first place?
