Errant snowballs, Chicken and Waffles for MLK Day and Navy Standards in Decline: SBPDL Re-dux

Didn't we warn people about acknowledging soul food and Black people's love for it?

This Web site started as a joke, a late-night idea conceived by a number of friends engaged in a conversation on forbidden topics. It’s evolved into something else entirely chronicling a nation in swift, virtually free-fall decline.

Three past entries are in the news again, necessitating a sequel of sorts. They include errant snowballs in Washington D.C.; Naval Academy Standards; and acknowledging Black people’s love of soul food.

Just like the soul food meal at NBC headquarters last February for Black History Month, the honoring of Black people through a meal of chicken and waffles seemed a good idea at the University of California-Irvine. However this meal broke one of the primary rules of Black Run America (never publicly acknowledge Black stereotypes) though the popular TV show Man vs. Food has showcased a popular Atlanta restaurant serving the exact items.

The offending meal will regrettably cause many heads to roll:

Students at the University of California-Irvine were irked when an on-campus dining facility served fried chicken and waffles in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, reports the Daily Pilot. 


The dinner came on the first night of the campus's 28th annual Martin Luther King Jr. symposium.
Although university representative Cathy Lawhon acknowledged that the decision to link the foods with MLK's name was insensitive, she said that the chef in question would not face disciplinary action from the university.


Lawhon said the Jan. 17 dinner was "put together at the last minute," according to the Los Angeles Times.
 
Regardless of intent, some students were offended by the nod to the culinary stereotype. "It's just another in a long line of small events on our campus that aren't meant to be taken in a certain way, but are at least questionable in their cultural legitimacy," Black Student Union director of communications John Murillo III told the Times.

The Times reports that dining service providers Aramark said they will offer cultural sensitivity training for chefs and managers in light of the event.

No word on if Flava Flav’s new chicken restaurant in Iowa will cause patron’s to engage in a random Beat Whitey riot.

Cafeteria managers, restaurant owners and any working in the food service industry be forewarned: do not promote stereotypical Black food dishes near any holiday that celebrates a Black figure or Black history month. It will be seen as painting Black people in a negative light, which can never occur in Black Run America.

It should be noted that out of 26,000 students, Cal-Irvine has roughly 550 Black students (or two percent of the undergraduate enrollment).

If snow and cold weather are among Black people’s worst nightmare, errant snowballs represent weaponized projectiles of frosty doom for the person who dares throw the missile. Just ask this Washington D.C. citizen who was hit with an errant snowball:

Tossing a snowball almost cost a man his life in Lake Ridge.

Tyree Merle Alexander, 40, was arrested early Thursday morning after he sliced another man's neck with a box cutter, Prince William County police said.

Alexander was shoveling snow around 4 a.m. Thursday on the 3800 block of Core Place in Lake Ridge. Authorities said Alexander was hit by a snowball thrown by a 23-year-old Woodbridge man. An argument ensued between the two, ending when Alexander produced a blade and cut his victim, police said.

Occupants of a nearby house came outside and began fighting with Alexander. The fracas was broken up when police arrived and took Alexander in to custody.

The victim was airlifted to a nearby hospital with life threatening injuries, but is expected to survive.

Unlike the Washington D.C Black detective who brought a gun to a snowball fight, this guy brought a knife. Errant snowballs and Black people don’t mix.
The Naval Academy has been in the news of late, with a Black, high ranking Navy officer proclaiming diversity as the future of the maritime force. The only way to achieve this glorious vision is to lower Naval Academy (and Coast Guard Academy) standards, with the previous requirements for admittance a precarious task for Black students.

Bruce Fleming, a professor at the Academy, pointed out the absurdity of diluting the officer pool with the poisonous, toxic idea of diversity and created a minor controversy in 2009. Now, he’s back with a vengeance:

Fleming wrote a piece last year exposing the fact that the USNA had a “two-tiered” system of admission that was designed to bring more minorities into the academy. (Since access to the full article has expired, reporting on the article is available here.) And he began speaking to academy alumni about the lower standards.  

"We’ll do anything to get non-white students,” he said,  in order to appear more diverse and improve the football team.  According to Fleming, the admissions system is two-tiered because  minority candidates have lower test scores and grades than their counterparts. In short,  Fleming says that the Academy is rejecting better qualified white applicants to admit minority candidates with less impressive credentials.  The USNA has been very aggressive on the affirmative action front in recent years.  In 2009, Adm. Gary Roughead, the chief of naval operations, went so far as to say that  “diversity is the No. 1 priority” at the academy. (Gee, I guess training warriors and officer’s is now #2).


But Fleming, who has served on the academy’s admissions board,  goes even further.   While white applicants are required to secure a nomination by a member of congress or other federal official, minority candidates are sometimes given what he calls “a pro forma nomination to make it legit.”
But it gets even worse. As the Associated Press reports:


“Fleming told The Associated Press that midshipmen who struggle are given easier coursework or unlimited tutoring, breeding resentment among students who expected to get a first-rate education along with their military training. The environment is particularly toxic for talented black midshipmen, he said, because they are perceived by some classmates as less-qualified.
‘My students are disillusioned beyond belief,’ Fleming said. ‘They see people being coddled for political reasons or racial reasons or sports reasons.’


The result, he said, is a watered-down officer corps that weakens the military. Navy leaders haven’t fully articulated their reasoning for wanting more minority officers, he said.
‘What I hear is, what the enlisted people want is an officer who won’t get them killed,’ he said.”
The Navy apparently doesn’t care for Fleming’s honesty.  Even though he was recommended for a merit pay increase by his supervisors, it was denied by the Navy brass.  So Fleming filed a complaint.   While he cannot discuss the details, he says that he is very satisfied with the result.

We learned in the Fort Hood shooting that diversity can never be the casualty of any event that transpires in Black Run America, because an increasing of diversity is the primary goal of every institution in BRA. Regardless of the consequences, diversity is the primary goal, equating to a replacement of qualified individuals with unqualified Black people possessing a collectivist mentality.

The United States military (save Special Forces and Air Force pilots) is a testament to this philosophy. Who are we fooling; every institution in America is a testament to this philosophy whether government, academic or private sector.

BRA will collapse into itself clinging desperately to the prevailing ideology of egalitarianism, with every television channel broadcasting propitiations to a belief system that no one ever believed in the first place save those sociopathic enough to compete for positions of power.

There’s nothing to laugh at anymore. World Star Hip Hop (the best Black Web site) broadcasts the unvarnished, uncensored truth of the growing Black underclass and people commenting at the stories posted there that highlight atrocious behavior find humor in the visual proceedings they watch.
In short, you need to understand what we write here is not hate, but a delineation of Hate Facts.

And concealing Hate Facts from normal Americans is a task even the hardened gatekeeper and battle-tested censor is incapable of succeeding at today.

Errant Snowballs Lead to Mass Arrests in Philadelphia

In the history of snowball fights, few have attained the notoriety of the infamous December 2009 snow war that ended with the enraged Washington DC police officer, Detective Mike Baylor, arresting many combatants after brandishing a firearm. No snowball – despite the engineering and precision used in its creation – can compete with a gun.

However, the snow that pelted the eastern portion of the United States had a maddening affect on Black people in Philadelphia, as 100 participants in a snowball battle terrorized a Macy’s Department Store with the fury of a god slighted. According to a local nightly news report – this time courtesy of CBS – the Macy’s was overrun with unruly Black people who created an impromptu Black Friday:

Investigators say a massive snowball fight outside City Hall between 100 teens spilled into a popular department store and ended with 14 arrests.

The entire ordeal began when approximately 100 teens engaged in a gigantic snowball fight outside Philadelphia's City Hall Tuesday evening.

Shortly afterwards, the unruly mob then rolled into the Macy's Department Store located in the 1300 block of Market Street.

Once inside, customers told Eyewitness News total chaos ensued.

"A couple kids were shoving and pushing and people started throwing shoes at each other. Someone threw a sign over someone's head," Eyewitness Brianne Bee said.

Customers inside the store said the incident lasted between five to 10 minutes.

A 16-year-old girl was arrested for allegedly kicking a 15-year-old boy in the face as other teens held him down outside the store. The 15-year-old is listed in stable condition at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.

Similar to the "flash mobs" near South Street in June 2009, investigators believe Tuesday's brawl might have been organized on the internet.

According to investigators, many of the teens involved in the incident attend Simon Gratz High School.

All of the teens are facing charges of disorderly conduct, while some are facing assault charges.

No innocent bystanders were injured. The incident remains under police investigation.

Simon Gratz High School is an overwhelming Black school, and though students are required to wear uniforms the Black students discipline was lacking in the snowball fight that melted into a fury of fists quickly.

Simon Gratz is 97 percent Black and 75 percent of students are eligible for a free lunch. This school has the motto of "Educating the children of today for the opportunities of tomorrow."

The opportunities of tomorrow obviously come at the expense of the tax payer, who pony up hundreds of thousands of dollars each year so that these students can eat and then run amok throughout the streets of Philadelphia and obstructing the shopping habits of Macy’s customers.

Stuff Black People Don’t Like is saddened by the exploits of Simon Gratz finest students, for the education they are provided is preparing them for only one opportunity: jail.

Worse, it was Black people’s dislike of snow and errant snowballs that drove them into the frenzy at Macy’s to begin with. Always consult SBPDL before engaging in behavior detrimental to your health.

#472. The Winter Olympics

Black people don't like the snow. They especially don't like errant snowballs thrown haphazardly in the general vicinity of where they might be located, if in fact that Black person is in the unfortunate realm where snow is accumulating.

Case in point, as of the 2000 census, the United States has 36 million Black people comprising roughly 13 percent of the total population. A staggering 54 percent of all Black people live in the south, and these states are known for producing hot temperatures and are routinely devoid of snow in the winter months. Convenient for Black people and conducive to pleasant winters that lack any errant snowballs.

This link will take you to a rundown of Black people's percentage of each state in the union. Notice the colder the state, the near single digit percentage of Black people.

It is said April is the cruelest month, but Black people know that December through February are much worse and supplant T.S. Elliot's prose with its frosty temperatures. A handful of dust won't cause dismay among Black people, but a handful of snow will do the trick.

Sadly, these facts of Black people and their complete disregard for snow, cold weather state-less living and errant snowballs add up to a simple conclusion - they don't like to be cold.

Thus, when Byrant Gumbel complained about the lack of Black people participating in the 2006 Winter Olympics, he was missing important variables that point to this simple truth:

"Finally, tonight, the Winter Games. Count me among those who don’t like them and won’t watch them ... Because they’re so trying, maybe over the next three weeks we should all try too. Like, try not to be incredulous when someone attempts to link these games to those of the ancient Greeks who never heard of skating or skiing.

So try not to laugh when someone says these are the world’s greatest athletes, despite a paucity of blacks that makes the Winter Games look like a GOP convention. Try not to point out that something’s not really a sport if a pseudo-athlete waits in what’s called a kiss-and-cry area, while some panel of subjective judges decides who won ... So if only to hasten the arrival of the day they’re done, when we can move on to March Madness — for God’s sake, let the games begin."

ESPN - the sports channel that dedicates its program allowance to spoiling Black people with continuous highlights of Black people dunking basketballs and philandering - finds scare air time to discuss hockey, let alone showcase the exploits of white people performing in the Winter Olympics.

Thus, Gumbel is correct to point out the paucity of Black people at Winter Olympics, but he is misguided in failing to indicate why this occurs. Nations that have non-indigenous Black people in them - the United States, Canada and other European countries - find it difficult to locate Black people who dare venture out into the cold and participate in sporting events that require snow to be on the ground.

In Africa, where they're exist nations that have a plentiful amount of indigenous Black people, snow is a resource difficult to come by and thus, fielding Winter Olympic teams is fools dream (Thankfully, the Jamaican's never fail to dream and field a bobsled team, with the end result being hilariously charming).

So yes, Black people find the Winter Olympics nauseating and Gumbel did articulate the monolithic view of the quasi-sporting contest that Black people have of the games, but it took the eloquent statement of a fellow Black person to qualify why:

"Interest in sporting activities are often dictated by environment. That's why Nordic and European countries have excelled in past Winter Olympics," said Project 21 member Deneen Moore. "It's a simple fact that winter sports are not part of black culture for both geographic and economic reasons. Accessibility, affordability and motivation are key requirements for individuals to excel in sport activities, not the color of one's skin. Mr. Gumbel should be aware of these obvious facts and not try to score cheap racial political points."

Wait a second, geographic reasons for why certain races are active in some activities and other races find sports that require running and jumping a better way to compete... baloney!!

The Winter Olympics does give credence the theories of the Ice People vs. The Sun People and worse, that paucity of Black people means that it will be white people who take home all of the gold (thankfully, a Leprechaun is rumored to reside in Mobile).

It is sports, mind you, that provide the only positive images of Black people in America and, that point, helped pave the way for the election of Mein Obama. The Winter Olympics, with the complete lack of Black athletes, flies directly in the face of this dictum and dares to give white people other heroes to worship and cheer for that aren't Black!

Black sporting heroes knocked down the door of Jim Crow in the south and ushered in an era of false equality that loosely still exists, but the Winter Olympics - and the paucity of Black athletes in competition for the medals - erodes the white confidence in Black superiority in athletics:

Not that the Winter Olympics reflect the wider world, which is a majority people of color. Let's face it: Ethiopians may make great marathoners, but they don't do well in curling. A Jamaican bobsled team was so hilarious it became the punch-line of a Hollywood movie. The Winter Olymics are a festival of whiteness—on the ground and on the winners' platform.

But it's when the Olympics try for relevance that they turn the corner into imbecility. Seeing the addition of xtreme sports in a frantic attempt to hold onto that elusive young male viewer is like your uncle Jakie in Ft. Lauderdale wearing a backward baseball cap and showing ass crack through his Sean Johns.

Black people know the truth: without images of Black people running with the football, dunking basketballs and sometimes excelling at baseball, the United States of America would be deprived of any positive images of Black people.

Thus, even though snow is abundant at the winter games and yes, errant snowballs and the temperature isn't high, Stuff Black People Don't Like includes the Winter Olympics because of the paucity of Black people.

If Black people competed, Black people would watch. Black people don't compete, so Black people tune out of the coverage NBC provides and pray for the Winter Olympics to end, so that Black dominance of sports and positive images of Black can continue to perpetuate uninhibited.

Of course, some Black people have had success at the Winter Olympics, but this is treated much like a man biting a dog story would be:

Chicago isn't just the home of R. Kelly, Twista, and Kanye West. We can now add Shani Davis to the list of historic Black men coming from Chi-Town. That's not only because he holds the world record in the 1500-meters and Allround Points in 2005, but he has made Olympic history by becoming the first African-American to win an individual gold medal in the Winter Olympics.

And of course, who can forget Vonetta Flowers, the Black woman who could have propelled the Jamaican Bobsled team to success:

Vonetta Flowers was the first black athlete (male or female)--from any country--to ever win an Olympic Winter Games gold medal. In the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City, Vonetta and Jill Bakken drove USA to an Olympic gold medal, ending the United States' 46-year medal drought in bobsled. The 2-woman bobsled team's time was 1 minute 48 seconds.

Black people don't the Winter Olympics for reasons that make sense: cold, errant snowballs and a lack of Black people competing, thereby challenging the long-held assumption that Black people are superior at athletics.

Our friends at theroot.com have proven our point: a handful of Black people have competed in the white Olympics, yet regardless of nationality, Black people cheer for fellow Black people excelling in the Winter Olympics (or in most cases, merely participating).

Of course, Disingenuous White Liberals hate the Winter Olympics for the precisely the same reason: Not enough Black people!

Remember, sports paved the way for Mein Obama. Without sports, SBPDL can't imagine where Black people would be.

The snow reflects the whiteness of the Winter Olympic games, and Black people find these circumstances unsettling.

The Ninth Day of Christmas at SBPDL - Errant Snowballs

Washington DC is a town known for safety. However, Black people are already known not to like the snow and have a difficult time discerning the myriad complexities of gun safety.

Now, combine snow with gun safety and put these two combustible Black elements into Washington DC and you have a recipe for an ultimate SBPDL.

Black people have long been incapable of cooperating with the police, and this difficulty is exasperated exponentially when a Black person is the one carrying around the badge. There are many competent Black police officers in the United States (Chief Moose and Carl Winslow come to mind), and yet the power of the law in their hands leads to a crippling arrogance that, when compounded with high levels of snow fall and a massive snow ball fight, spells trouble:

WASHINGTON — Washington's police chief criticized a veteran detective Monday for pulling a gun during a mass snowball fight. Authorities said the officer is on desk duty while the case is under investigation.

Metropolitan Police Chief Cathy Lanier said she had watched video clips from the weekend confrontation and has no doubt that the off-duty officer pulled his gun after snowballs hit his personal vehicle during Saturday's record snowfall.

"Let me be very clear in stating that I believe the actions of the officer were totally inappropriate!" Lanier said in a statement. "In no way should he have handled the situation in this manner."

When you click on this story, it takes you to a Fox News link (remember, Black people don't like Fox News, even though the network does little to encourage racism. Here, they picture a white cop with the story who was trying to get the bottom of the event, for a Black detective became irate when he was pelted with numerous snow balls).

A better story can be found here, which delineates the race of the individual who became noticeably offended by the icy projectiles that were flung his way:

"Washington, D.C. police are investigating reports that a detective brandished his gun during a mass snowball fight on a city street after an Internet video surfaced that appears to show the incident.

Police said Monday they were looking into reports that a plainclothes officer pulled a gun after he and his personal car were hit by snowballs. Police say witness accounts and videos from the scene appeared to support the claims.

Hundreds of people were involved in the snowball fight during Saturday's record snowstorm.

Sadly, this Black police who had a difficult time cooperating with snow balls and goofy white liberals (watch the video and tell us these aren't the kind of goofy white people that Stuff White People Like bashes) has been reprimanded:

"A Washington, D.C., police detective has been put on desk duty after pulling out his gun during a snowball fight Saturday.

The off-duty detective, whose name has not been released, was driving past a snowball fight in the city when his Hummer was hit by snowballs. He allegedly stopped the car, got out, and took out his gun. He also pulled out a walkie-talkie and called for backup.

Most of the incident was caught on video and quickly posted to YouTube.

According to an eyewitness, a D.C. Police detective (pictured above with gun) went nuts after kids pelted his Hummer with snowballs at 14th and U Streets NW this afternoon. The veteran detective got out of his car and eventually grabbed for his gun, displaying it to the crowd. He did not immediately identify himself as a police officer. He calmed down once his fellow uniformed cop arrived."

Black people don't like the snow and worse, they find the idea of balls of snow being utilized as weaponry offensive to the rules of civilized war and thus it is incumbent upon them to brandish guns in retaliation for this grievous insolence on the part of goofy white liberals in Washington DC:

A plainclothes police detective allegedly pulled his gun out and waved it at a large group of people in a snowball fight at the corner of 14th and U streets NW Saturday afternoon.

An off-duty member of the Metropolitan Police Dept. was reportedly driving his personal car in the area when the car was suddenly pelted with a barrage of snowballs, according to a statement from the MPD.

The detective stopped his car, got out and approached a crowd of people that might have thrown the snowballs. He then got into a verbal fight with members of the crowd, according to police.

Stuff Black People Don't Like includes errant snowballs, for if an officer of the law can be put in an untenable situation where only a gun can even the score, then it is wise to refrain from throwing snowballs at any Black people. Ever.

As the goofy white liberals in the video state, "Don't bring a gun to a snowball fight," unless of course, you will be in a snowball fight in a majority Black city. Then, you might need one.

Sadly, a snowball fight in Philadelphia did become lethal over this Christmas season in Philadelphia. RIP Teven Rutledge.

And this wasn't the first time a Black person has found errant snowballs to be worthy of reciprocity in the form of a gun, as Joseph Best of Philadelphia pulled a gun on Ebony Smith in 2003, for - you guessed it - an errant snowball:

A 10-year-old girl is fighting for her life after a man whose daughter was hit with a snowball returned and sprayed bullets into a group of children.

Joseph Best, 32, was arrested in Philadelphia and remanded on charges including attempted murder.

Ebony Smith, who police say was not involved in the snowball fight, is said to be in a critical condition with a head wound.

Best's daughter was hit with a snowball as she and her friends walked past a group of girls having a "friendly snowball fight", said Captain Charles Bloom of Philadelphia police.

A scuffle then broke out among the dozen or so girls, aged from 10 to 15. The groups soon parted ways, but Best returned with an older daughter and another brawl erupted, this time between adult relatives of both groups.

Police broke up that fight, but said Best came back again hours later, leaned out the passenger side of a moving car and fired at least five shots into the group of children still playing on the street. Authorities are trying to determine who was driving.

Police said the girl who was shot had been inside a house during the scuffles.

"This little girl had nothing to do with anything. She wasn't involved in the fight," Capt Bloom said. "He just seemed to be randomly shooting into the crowd."

It's just never a good idea to throw a snowball in the direction of Black people, regardless of what race you might belong too.

The Fourth Day of Christmas at SBPDL - Snow

We've had the distinct pleasure of introducing you, dear reader, to the inimitable Leonard Jeffries before and we find this auspicious moment a perfect opportunity to rekindle that intimate relationship.

A "White Christmas" has befallen a good portion of the United States and left a wintry residue upon the ground to welcome Santa and his eight reindeer on the 25th of December.

Why bring up this important point? One simple reason, for Mr. Jeffries has constantly railed against the insidious "Ice People", those devilish white people who enjoy building snow men and throwing hardened balls of snow at one another:

"Blacks are "sun people," Jeffries explains, and whites are "ice people." New York Newsday quoted Jeffries as telling his students last year, "Our thesis is that the sun people, the African family of warm communal hope, meets an antithesis, the vision of ice people, Europeans, colonizers, oppressors, the cold, rigid element in world history." Jeffries believes melanin, the dark skin pigment, gives blacks intellectual and physical superiority over whites."

Ice People, white people must be, for the distribution of Black people throughout the United States shows an aversion to areas to experience how levels of snow fall throughout the year (an incredible map that show geographic concentration of Black people in the United States can be found here).

The states with smallest Black population have an interesting correlation with the states that also have the highest snowfall per yer.

Jeffries might be correct in his "Sun People" theory, for 54 percent of the United States Black population resides in the southern portion of the nation, which has a humid subtropical climate.

A website, The Quintessential Negro, has an interesting commentary and hypothesis about this data and comes to a simple conclusion: Black people don't like cold weather.

Jeffries would like everyone to believe this is because White people are the descendants of "Ice People", which has some scientific basis:

"Some theories advanced before the 1970s tended to be racist, and others were less than convincing. White skin, for example, was reported to be more resistant to cold weather, although groups like the Inuit are both dark and particularly resistant to cold. After the 1970s, when researchers were presumably more aware of the controversy such studies could kick up, there was very little work at all. "It's one of these things everybody notices," Jablonski says, "but nobody wants to talk about."

Perhaps no event illustrates Black people and the winter of their discontent better than the Olympic Winter Games, an event that one individual stated:

"So try not to laugh when someone says these are the world's greatest athletes, despite a paucity of blacks that makes the winter games look like a GOP convention."

One movie dares showcase what transpires when Black people enter the monochromatic world of the Olympic Winter Games - Cool Runnings - to predictably hilarious results:

"Irving "Irv" Blitzer is an American bobsled double gold medalist at the 1968 Winter Olympics, who finished first in two events again in 1972 but was disqualified for cheating and retired in disgrace to Jamaica, where he leads a destitute life as a bookie. He is approached by top 100m runner Derice Bannock, who failed to qualify for the 1988 Summer Olympics when another opponent, Junior Bevil, tripped at the trials, and pushcart driving champion Sanka Coffie, who both wish to use his previous experience as a coach in order to compete in the 1988 Winter Olympics as bobsledders. Irv had been good friends with Derice's father, Ben, a former sprinter whom Irv had tried to recruit for the bobsled team years ago. Yul Brenner, another runner who was tripped at the qualifier by Junior, also joins the team. After Irv is convinced to coach the team, the three months of practice begins, initially resulting in embarrassment. However, the four men acclimate to the sport and travel to Calgary and the Olympics.

The Jamaicans' first day on the track results in, once more, embarrassment, and a last-place finish. The second day proves better; the Jamaican team finishes with a fast time which puts them in eighth position. For the first half of the final day's race it looks as though they will break the world bobsled speed record, until tragedy strikes; their sled, due to one of the blades falling off, flips on its side coming out of a turn towards the end of their run, leaving them meters short of the finish line. However, the team lifts their sled up and walks across the finish line to rousing applause from onlookers. The team, at the end, feels accomplished enough to return in four years to the next winter Olympics. A brief epilogue states the team returned to Jamaica as heroes, and upon their return to the Winter Olympics four years later, they were treated as equals."

Yes, Jamaica had a bobsled team, even though snow has never graced their wonderful island:

"The Jamaican four man Bobsled team debuted at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, Alberta. There they became a fan favorite due to the novelty of having such a warm country compete in a cold-weather sport. They did not finish because they lost control of the sled and crashed during one of their four runs. However, they showed significant improvement throughout the games and impressed observers with some fast starts. After crashing, they famously got out of their sled and walked with it to the finish line to great applause."

Black people find this story worthy of admiration, yet they also find snow a most unfortunate weather phenomenon to be stuck in and - as we have shown - live near.

However, some Black people are trying to enter the cold climate that only "Ice People" dare enter, as the National Brotherhood of Skiers is attempting to dispel horrid notions that "Sun People" don't like ice:

"The National Brotherhood of Skiers, one of the largest skiing groups in the U.S., has returned to the place of their first national summit.

“We are a collective Jackie Robinson, we gotta steal home base,” Brown said, referring to Robinson’s gutsy move during the 1955 World Series when he played for the Brooklyn Dodgers. Robinson was the first black Major League Baseball player to end baseball segregation.

“I wish I had gotten started earlier. Growing up I always heard ‘Black people don’t ski,’” she said.

Jahi agrees that this is the common conception of both blacks and whites, but the stereotype should disappear this week as the slopes of Snowmass are much more colorful.

The NBS is constantly trying to melt away misconceptions of Black people and snow, working overtime to turn ski slopes into an amazing collection of "Black Ice":

"For years, the inconvenience of getting to resorts was a barrier to blacks, who mostly lived in urban and southern regions. The high cost of lift tickets, equipment, and lessons didn't help. Cultural habits have also played a role. According to David Becher, a senior researcher for Colorado marketing research firm RRC, the number of African-American skiers still remains low, at 2 percent. Four percent are Asian, 3 percent are Latino, and 1 percent are Native American.

"I want to ski with black folks," said Maxine Morgan, 44, of Queens, N.Y., as she rushed off to pick up lift tickets. "I know it sounds trite, but it's true. Skiing is a white thing, and you always stand out."

Added Elise LaMotte, 40, of Stoughton, who skis with the Boston Ski Party: "People are looking to have a good time with people who look like them."

Okolo Schwinn-Clanton, 31, of Methuen has been a member of the National Brotherhood of Skiers since the age of 3, and coaches young skiers to race. He said he often travels to competitions to represent "the only black face in the crowd" to cheer them. Schwinn-Clanton has seen the number of new skiers grow, but said he doesn't believe the industry is maximizing the potential of the black market. "If [the ski industry] understood the Tiger Woods phenomenon and how many blacks started playing golf, the ski industry would be doing everything they could," he said."

Sadly, golf never saw an actual Tiger Woods effect, and skiing isn't likely to see an influx of Black people to the slopes anytime, for Stuff Black People Don't Like includes snow, that horrifying white stuff that falls from the sky and envelopes the world in its quieting madness, an atavistic reminder to all "Ice People" of their true origins.

A "White Christmas" isn't one that Black people find conducive to a great Christmas, which is why most Black people try and have Christmas in Dixie, where it is usually quite warm.
