|Marshall Coulter's (called a "professional thief" by his older brother when he turned 14-years-old and was shot by Merritt Landry) younger brother Devin, 13, is pictured above. He was arrested for armed robbery in New Orleans on Feb. 12|
You know the Coulter's, everyone's favorite black family next door?
Marshall Coulter, the 14-year-old would-be Trayvon Martin of New Orleans, was on the receiving end of a white man's vengeance; Merritt Landry's to be exact.
His brother defended Marshall, though he did label him a "professional thief" (at the ripe old age of 14, when did he do his apprenticeship and get called up to the big leagues?), when this incident first broke. [Unarmed teen shot inside homeowner's fenced yard, but not breaking into home, NOPD warrant says, NOLA.com, 7-26-13]:
Coulter is the seventh of eight children. Coulter's 23-year-old brother, David Coulter, said he had largely raised the children after their father died three years ago of stomach cancer. David said he and his mother did his best to keep Marshall out of trouble.
Marshall Coulter, who had been on medication for attention deficit hyperactive disorder, was awaiting trial for "stealing stuff," his brother said.
"He would steal -- he was a professional thief, sure," David Coulter said. "But he would never pick up a gun, not in a million years. He was too scared to aim a gun at the grass, let alone aim it at a person. No way. Before he'll ever pick up a gun, he'll be your friend first.
"He's still a little boy," the brother said. "Who pulls a trigger on a 14-year-old? What if it was your little brother or your sister? How would you feel?"Well David, for one, I'd feel you were a pretty crappy father figure for young Marshall. As a "professional thief" at the age of 14 (when most males are professional premature ejaculatory machines), your brother was working overtime to confirm every negative stereotype people hold of black males.
|Life in Trayvon Nation: Merritt Landry, left, shot the 14-year-old "professional thief" Marshall Coulter (he survived). A Grand Jury has decided not to take action against Landry.|
For what it's worth, black males are the reason the New Orleans government in Orleans Parrish must invest in the hilariously named NOLA For Life Program (yes, with Midnight Basketball as a call-to-action to stop the black violence). Good ol' gentrification hating Spike Lee was even quoted as saying this about violence in New Orleans:
“Bright young lives are being snuffed out on New Orleans’ streets daily. Our young black men are killing each other like it's a self-imposed genocide. It is our job, our responsibility, to make them understand the value of their lives and help them to achieve their greatest potential.”"Bright young lives" might be a difficult, no... it's bold faced lie when using that term to describe black youth.
Just look at what one of Coulter's younger brothers was just arrested for doing. [CBD armed robbery suspects identified; at least 4 are teens, Fox 8 New Orleans, 2-12-14]:
Police make an arrest in connection with a pair of armed robberies in the Central Business District.
Why couldn't young Devin Coulter (was he, like Marshall, a "professional thief" as well?) have been playing midnight basketball instead of working assiduously to do their best impression of his older brother, Marshall? The NOPD arrested 13 year-old Devin Coulter in the New Orleans East Wednesday.
On Sunday, he and four others allegedly robbed a 72 year-old at Julia and O'Keefe.
Just minutes later, police say the group held up two people in the 800 block of St Charles Avenue.
When the victims started to run away, one of the robbers fired a shot grazing one victim's neck.
Three other suspects have been identified: 13 year-old Nolan Mitchell, 16 year-old Joshua Brady, and 15 year-old Tyronishe Mitchell.
Family trade or something...
After all, the President of the United States of America is black; the Attorney General of the Department of Justice is black; the Director of Homeland Security is a black guy too!
Were America an evil, bigoted, racist nation, we'd be reading over and over again about the Coulter's history of violence, and how black males have, for decades, made large parts of New Orleans uninhabitable for law-abiding citizens.
If America was such a racist place, our trauma surgeons in urban war-zones would refuse to patch up black males bleeding out from gunshot wounds (courtesy of other blacks males). Instead, our surgeons are learning new techniques to lower the homicide rates [Murders down in New Orleans, not shootings, The Advocate, 11-14-13]:
At the same time, hospital officials and the city’s Emergency Medical Services department believe their life-saving advancements surely factor in to the lower death rate.
In the first half of both this year and last, precisely the same number of shooting victims — 251 — arrived at the trauma center at Interim LSU Hospital. But the outcomes were different: Doctors lost 30 percent fewer of their gunshot victims this year.
Others point to a laundry list of other possibilities: dumb luck, an unexplained bout of bad marksmanship, a shift in the types of guns available on the streets, changes in the way the New Orleans Police Department categorizes its crimes.Marshall Coulter was one of those black males saved by trauma surgeons. A "professional thief" by the age of 14, he was just another black male working to prove every negative stereotype of black males correct.
Kinda like his brother Devin Coulter, who was recently arrested in an armed robbery at the age of 13 (didn't David Coulter say his brother Marshall would never pick up a gun... same can't be said for Devin).
Or, he's kinda like his older brother David Coulter, who was just arrested (in a story that has been completely suppressed by the New Orleans Times Picayune and by all local NBC/ABC/CBS/FOX affiliates in New Orleans) for two counts of battery and one charge of resisting arrest.
If America was a racist place, we'd have never heard the end of the black Coulter family troubles, and the ills this one clan has spread across New Orleans.
No, America is not a racist country.
12 Years a Slave is about to become mandatory viewing in public schools.
As for me, I'll stick with Birth of a Nation.
The former is a reminder why all white people are nothing more than indentured servants in 2014 America; the latter is the reason why in 1969 America was able to go to the moon (our destiny then was the stars, instead of perpetually working to upgrade black America out of the poverty of its own design).
Who's up for some midnight basketball? NOLA For Life!!
