#WakandaIsntReal: Two White University Professors Argue the Success of 'Black Panther' is a Repudiation of President Trump

There can be no doubt about it anymore: black people view Black Panther with a religious affinity. [In Age of Trump, we all needed 'Black Panther' to save the day, NJ.com, 3-16-18]:

Since opening last month, Black Panther has grossed almost a billion dollars worldwide. The film seems poised to break into the top 10 most successful superhero movies in U.S. history. And critics are in love.
So what explains the film's runaway success? (Warning: spoilers ahead.)
#WakandaIsntReal, but Donald J. Trump is very real. More to the point, the sound and fury electing him in 2016 is real too...
One obvious reason is that it's fresh and familiar at the same time. Black Panther is a superhero movie in which the hero, and his extraordinary supporting cast, are African. On the one hand, the audience expects and receives some of the usual hero fare: an origins backstory, and a narrative arc that includes a super-powered villain, as well as the inevitable rise, fall, and return of the film's protagonist, T'Challa.
On the other hand, this is a hero, and a world, that Hollywood has never showcased before. While Marvel and DC have increasingly produced films and comics featuring heroes of color, women, and gay and transgendered characters, the core of the hero universe is still mostly white, male, and straight.
Black superheroes, in particular, are usually afterthoughts and sidekicks, like Falcon (Avengers) and "Rhodey" (Iron Man).
But Black Panther mercilessly upends the comic book status quo. T'Challa is the heart of the film, and while he has superhuman strength and other enhanced senses, he is also a diplomat, a king, and a man unafraid to rely upon the wisdom and power of others, especially black women. T'Challa represents bravery and leadership, but his half-sister Shuri is the film's inventor and genius, and the warrior-bodyguard Okoye embodies military prowess, honor, and fierceness.
To put all this differently, Black Panther's appeal to an especially large and diverse audience can be partly explained by the movie's reliance on a collection of heroes and themes that are both transgressive and safe. Generation after generation of audiences have come to equate heroes as a group of white, mostly male saviors. But Black Panther gives us characters who look and speak differently. All of the Wakandans have African-inflected accents, and costumes and garb that celebrate a homegrown and distinctive culture.
Indeed, the entire world of Black Panther is colorful, kinetic, and technologically and organizationally superior to our own. Wakanda, the fictional city in the film, features hologram communications, a magnetic levitation rail system, and advanced medical techniques that enable Shuri to save the life of Everett Ross, the movie's white sidekick. Black Panther offers us the alternate world Africans might have experienced in the absence of colonization, war, slavery and Western culture.
Even the film's charismatic and sympathetic villain, Erik Killmonger, is transgressive. His dangerous difference would pass as conventional in other creative works. Killmonger is the only black character in the film who is also American. And his excellence in combat and lethal nature comes from what would normally be a traditional hero's biography: he's a decorated and talented U.S. Special Forces soldier, who fought campaigns in Iraq and Afghanistan.
But Black Panther tempers these genre-disrupting ideas. After all, Killmonger, who aims to achieve racial justice by arming black citizens and fomenting revolution, is defeated. And while T'Challa and Okoye can not be mistaken for, say, Batman and Robin, their ultimate promise to end Wakanda's isolation and aid the poor and needy across the globe is a pretty standard superhero aspiration.
Black Panther appears at a curious time in the United States. Having recently experienced eight years of the nation's first black president, the United States is sometimes described as entering a post-racial period, where multiculturalism and difference are uncontroversially embraced.
At the same time, the rise of Donald Trump has ushered in a resurgence in white nationalism and outright white supremacy. And, of course, our stubborn racial disparities in economic opportunity, political representation, and incarceration predate Trump's populist nativism.

Black Panther enters this uncertain and fractured era with a utopian promise that is both disruptive and restorative.
The superheroes will save us and bring us together, on terms that are largely familiar. As T'Challa puts it, "more connects us than separates us" and we must "look after one another, as if we were one single tribe."
But this unification and renewal occurs through an iconoclastic and genuinely original set of heroes, who beat back both their enemies and the hollow stereotypes of shiftless, alienated, and lawless people of color.
#WakandaIsntReal, but blacks will still allow the movie to inflate their already toxic levels of self-esteem to an unimaginable degree. With this op-ed, we learn Black Panther and Wakanda - a character and a fictional African nation invented by two Jewish writers in the 1960s - represent some great repudiation of Donald J. Trump.

Trump Tower is real.

Trump occupying 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington D.C. is real.

Wakanda isn't real.

The closest Africa has gotten to Wakanda was Rhodesia Pre-Mugabe and South Africa Pre- Mandela. After that, it accelerated downhill rapidly. Now the people are going to go hungry, the Grid will be failing, and Capetown will run out of water.

It is amazing how braindead the left truly are! There are some whites who are blind, stupid, or do not read. Negroes are not Wakanda. They are "mostly" a mudsill group that deserve no respect at all. They are a drain on any civilization. Are these professors familiar with Geography? Name one successful black nation. Whites who subscribe to this nonsense are idiots who never lived among negroes.

There is no repudiation against Trump.
Rather it is simply a fantasy escape.
8 years of Obama were ruinous. There is no debate, no revision, no league of college scholars that can overcome the unmitigated disaster that is Obamanomics.
Even with all of Trump’s stumbles and undiplomatic manner, he is without question the businessman who is turning around the Obama nightmare.
Enter the fantasy.
The first Black President virtually destroyed the greatest healthcare system in the world, single-handedly negotiated away our global presence and position, increased taxes on the middle class while incentivizing small businesses to cut hours through the mandate of health insurance. Wakanda is the fantastic story that a black led society can be vibrant, successful, cutting edge, and even democratic without any outsider-read white-influence.
It simply isn’t true. The populariry of the movie is without question a combination of white guilt, Progressive nonsense, blacks supporting the lie, and widely reported fictitious sales. I’m not seeing a huge ground swell of black-centrist movies, and if the above premise were true, why did a wrinkle in time disappoint?
The facts are Wakanda is a joke. A ridiculous fantasy put forth at a time when SJWs are tormenting whites, majority black towns have violent crime stats inline with the third world, and the silent minority of working class whites aren’t the only ones standing up to baseless lies of blacks as equals.
But yes, the African tribe people found some magic space rocks and magically became the most powerful and technologically advanced nation in the world. With no crime.
District 9 is a more accurate reflection of Black African culture, living in squalor, only looking to get a buzz.

If you go read Field Negro, you will see all the elements required for a cargo cult.  A negro is taught to fly an airplane (who learned first? who did the teaching? a White man) and thinks he's the greatest.  Some negro has a small part in creating the airplane, and all the negroes think it couldn't have been built without him.

This inability to comprehend proportion and to see cause and effect is why all African societies fall back to the level of their origins.  They can do no better because THEY are no better.  They cannot exceed the level of their human capital, which tops out at the level of mud huts and Big Man Rule.

Gotta love your addition to the story at the end of the post- three VERY TRUE lines.

Anyone who comes here or to other non-pc-friendly sites is probably VERY familiar with the heaping of critical praise on this movie. Black writers have been going all out attempting to outdo themselves on who can revere this sacred and paradigm-shifting movie the most. It's almost like these guys are trying to get the movie elected to president or some other high office. They sure do try when tribalism is involved.

I was going to write a parody of one of these reviews, but they are so over-the-top that it's actually going to take effort on my part. Just to make sure this gets posted I'll post my glimmering review later, I encourage others to submit theirs- facetious or truthful.

Some tips:

Count the movie's firsts- all black cast, director, race/gender/sexuality/age/egalitarian

Say what usually happens but what finally didn't happen this time, which is blacks never ever getting a chance and they probably will be denied another if blacks aren't on their toes.

Insult Trump as a way to seek bonding and closer relations with others

You CANNOT overuse praise-related adjectives. Nothing is off the table- if anyone insults your intelligence, RACISM + lawsuit. Trend-setting, magnificent, glorious, incredible, awe-inspiring, captivating, inspirational, unapologetic, etc. etc. Think of each one as a bonus point in your writing and don't hold back.

Make sure you make race a central issue and use words such as blackness, colonists, oppressors, people of color, slavery, redlining, Jim Crow, lynching, etc. etc. Lest your readers forget about the issue for even a moment make sure to continually bring it up throughout your review.

I'm really interested in reading the upcoming book "From the Wheel to Wakanda", which will finally explain how some Africans left all of the other Africans literally in the dirt. I know either Ivry Tower or I.M. Klewless will be writing the forward. And it will probably sound exactly like one of these reviews.

Another story from Ace or Dindu wouldn't hurt either.

The Black Panther first appeared in Fantastic Four #52 (JULY 1966) and was created by Jack Kirby who also was the creator and writer of the Fantastic Four. Editor Stan Lee had nothing to do with it.

Here is a comment about Stan Lee from a 1991 interview with Jack Kirby:

"Stan Lee and I never collaborated on anything. I've never seen Stan Lee write anything. I used to write the stories just like I always do."

As I mentioned before I was in the comic book business back in the 60's and 70's. My old friend Wally Wood wrote and drew the old Daredevil comics. He only got paid for the artwork and not the writing. Stan Lee got paid as writer. This was the case with most of the super hero comics turned out by Marvel.

What people don't know was that Stan Lee was the publishers (Martin Goodman) cousin. Stan Lee made a fortune off the writing talents of others.

The current comic book price guide list the value of Fantastic Four #52 in Near Mint condition at $3,000.00. I've got a couple closets filled with old comics and probably have a few copies of that issue. Off course none are in high grade condition.

I knew a lot of comic artist in the old days. I made more money selling comics than they made drawing them. Most cartoonist and writers got screwed because the publishers owned the copy-rights.

Jack Kirby was writing and drawing comics since the early 1940's. After his death his estate received no money from all the super hero movies turned out by Marvel.

OK, let's look at the list:
* School desegregation? Check.
* Voting rights? Check.
* Open housing? Check.
* Affirmative action? Check.
* MLK public holiday? Check.
* Black "studies" departments? Check.
* Minority grants, scholarships and set asides?
* Black (sorta) dude reading the Oval Office teleprompter? Check.
* Movie with an African-in-Africa super-hero? Check and double-check.

And a year from now, when blacks are still committing tons of violent crime, when blacks are still trashing their schools, when blacks are still running their cities into the ground, Wakanda will be forgotten and some new gimmick will be proclaimed to finally uplift them.

I think at some level blacks realize that they are running out the clock. Even with everything that has been done for them, they are still spiraling down to the African mean. None of the above checklist has been able to reverse or even slow down their descent. Blacks can see the future in the ruins of the 'hoods in which they live, in the videofeeds of Haiti and Liberia. So they are doing their version of the Plains Indian Ghost Dances, hallucinating into existence some magic world in which they are kings.

And perhaps they see, if not in Trump then with the rising Alt Right, the forces which will eventually reclaim this country for White Civilization.

Oh, don't forget the asteroid of unobtainium! That was a critical element the agenda (((Stan Lee))) couldn't buck. Even with his championing of negroes he knew even something as trite as a comic book would need a miracle to pull off black Africans as anything but what they are.

It could be possible if it wasn't Africans, though. I firmly believe that.

*I* am a former egalitarian, albeit a right-wing one. Yes, there are right-wing egalitarians. They're either Christians who believe in "the brotherhood of man" and are on a religious crusade to proselytise the entire world, or libertarians who believe that standards of individualism must be applied to the entire world, and that borders are arbitrary. I changed. Now I'm full exto on Negroes and Muslims. How did I change? FACTS. We must spread the facts on (1) the impending white extinction due to low birthrate, high rates of miscegenation, and high rates of nonwhite immigration (legal or not), and (2) the immutable, biological differences in the races, highlighting that whites invented the entire modern world, all by ourselves, the other races invented NOTHING (no, not even peanut-butter), and we invented all systems of justice. Once whites learn the differences, then the programming no longer works.

"Toxic levels of self-esteem."
That quote takes me back to the '60s, when the education establishment spoke openly of "raising the self-esteem of black people." In reality, that idea ended up as teaching one group that it was embued with ability it did not have, and the outright shaming of another group.
How did that work here in our multi-cultural society where feelings are now considered as "education?" Is diversity really a strength, or a problem to be overcome? Is it good for society to have "confident" stupid people running around thinking they possess the same or greater ability than others, or do they eventually have to learn the disappointing truth and become criminals? Why does society now talk of assimilating immigrants when it was an utter failure for several hundred years at "assimilating" black people? Is assimilation as big a myth as "diversity as strength?" I feel frequently that I am forced by my government to live in someone else's psychotic world of denial. We no longer have a lick of common sense, but enough denial for all of several continents.
Why am I labelled racist if I express any questioning of the reality around me? We live in a world where those with "self-esteem" call the child names who blurts out, "Look, the Emperor has no clothes!"

I think the big business this movie has reportedly done is due to the fictitious sales tacked onto the reliable big money base every Marvel movie earns.

I don't think a lot of average blacks, unless they got their hands on some freebies, actually went to see this movie. Average blacks still think of sci-fi movie franchises as entertainment for white people, even a comic book movie centered around genius black superheroes. The other day, I overheard a couple of what I consider "average" blacks talking about the movie, neither of whom had seen the movie or had any desire to go see it. One of them said Black Panther was a "white trick" designed to get black people to pay money to see a fake version of Africa. I thought that he actually wasn't far from the truth. The movie is indeed a "trick", but its primary purpose wasn't to earn money (especially black people's money), its primary purpose is to EXIST and be PRAISED and for others to point out that it is super-popular and has made a fortune, real or imagined.

The real audience of paying customers consists of Marvel movie fans who see every movie in the serial, whites looking to morally preen to other whites that they've seen it and it's oh-so-wonderful, and "educated" blacks who, thanks to affirmative action, believe themselves to be some sort of intellectuals. (Of course, those whites who saw the movie just to say they saw the movie didn't go to see it opening week--they may not consciously acknowledge it, but they knew to stay away. Hence, the record-setting second week box office.)

To me, the cringe inducing part is not that people think Wakanda is real. Fortunately, these are not many of the same people who vote. Therefore the fact that their votes do count as much as ours doen't bother me much..
What bothers me more is that people who would read this article almost as likely to vote as me. Worse yet, there more likely to be the ones encouraging our dusky-hued fellow Americans to vote: those whom are least statistically motivated, knowledgeable, or likely to care. Thus, if voting is a voluntary act, and self-limiting due to its entry-level requirements being a modicum of interest and knowledge, than those less motivated should stay less motived and therefore stay home, which will lead to better, more valid election. (Or so OUR thinking goes). Anyhow...
Stalin is attributed to having said, "it's not who votes that counts, it is who counts the votes that counts." That, m'friends, is what scares me the most: people who take this article's contents seriously will soon be the ones counting our votes, if they're not already.

When blacks rail about "institutional racism" they have a point insofar as White institutions make demands on people to act in a civilized manner. The events of recent decades, from Watts 1965 and culminating with the Wakanda cargo cult, see this play out. When expected to follow White standards of civil behavior, blacks mostly epic fail, then turn their rage into mindless violence.

I believe it was Greg Johnson over at Counter-Currents Publishing who said that blacks are not a very good fit for White civilization. No matter the continent, blacks can not deal with a civilization requiring certain standards of intelligence, impulse control and future time orientation. The result is endless criminality, lowering of standards and general disintegration of the cities. And when all else fails, mindless violence against YT, whether in Haiti, Ferguson and now the new rainbow nation of South Africa.

Truth is, the institutions of civilization will always appear to be "oppression" to the eternal savage. They can not even cope with a lawful order to stop walking down the street without having to assault the officer in question. And it's not just the thugs but the entire black agitation machine behind it. They really do not "get" the institutions of a higher civilization. The best they can do is lash together some CGI generated palm trees and call it "Wakanda."

Sumidiotsaid Black Panther offers us the alternate world Africans might have experienced in the absence of colonization, war, slavery and Western culture.

When I read comics as a child I definitely enjoyed imagining living in the fantasies portrayed in the stories. I even made a large hammer from a tree limb so I would have a hammer like Thor. But there was never any time in my life that I believed that the comic book fantasies were true, could have been true in the past, or would ever be true. Now we have idiots explaining that a fantasy movie illustrates what Africans could have been. It doesn't matter to these fools that Africans were left to themselves for more than 150,000 years prior to their contact with white people, yet they hadn't even discovered the wheel. To my knowledge there isn't a single amazing technological feat that has ever been achieved by blacks, nor am I aware of any technologically advanced society that has ever been improved by the introduction of blacks. We now have a generation of people who actually cannot distinguish fantasy from reality. At one time this condition was a recognized form of insanity, but now it is considered progressive.

I would not find the above statement to be so disturbing if it was more accurately reworded as Black Panther offers us the alternate world Africans might have experienced if they were not so stupid. It would still be fantasy because blacks are stupid and will always be stupid, but at least the connection between stupidity and the failure to create a Wakanda makes sense.

I'm no big brain, but when I see articles likes the ones below it makes me think a bit.

Okay, "Out of Africa" is the hypothesis most people want to believe, and I'll let it be and not contest it. But when us Honkys have Neanderthal genes, and the Chinks have Denisovan genes and the noble African has neither it makes me wonder at the differences between those three groups.

When I was young my parents had a National Geographic book, some big thing on world cultures describing Caucasoid, Negroid and Mongoloid. Let's see, which ones don't fit in when it comes to the use of the wheel, writing, ship building, law, etc...

Thank God for real diversity, otherwise we would really all be 100% African. I'm not religious, but always thought that the old DEVO line, "God made man, but he used the monkey to do it" seemed pretty logical. I guess he made the Neanderthal, Denisovan and African monkeys and unless you had either of the first two groups in your heritage for enough stable generations you'd just be a simple African monkey, for the most part.

If my lack of scientific background is hindering logic or there is a troublesome flaw in an assumption on my part will someone please correct me?

This is absolute, ridiculous rubbish.
1. Slavery actually held back economic growth in the USA. The wealthiest regions of the nation are those that did not allow slavery.
2. The negro attempts to equate conquest, which is often (but not always) the result of the expansion of civilization, with the kind of petty theft common to blacks, when they are in no way similar.
3. Blacks owe whites a civilizational debt they will never be able to repay. Do whites really owe blacks money, when it was whites who brought blacks the concept of restorative justice in the first place? Simply by reading a book, blacks are benefitting massively from contact with, and domination by, whites. The cultural exchanges of the last 500 years have benefitted blacks MUCH more than whites. Blacks living in the sweltering rainforests of West Africa, dying from sleeping sickness, going blind from bacterial infections, lacking basic nutrition, lacking adequate housing, anything but the most primitive material culture, and nothing in the way of an intellectual or literary tradition, had it much worse than even the most grotesquely abused slaves in America,which likely represented only a small minority of the total of enslaved Africans.
