Not Exactly "Christmas Shoes": Black People Riot Nationwide Over Air Jordan's... Again

There are two songs around Christmas that I don't like hearing. One is Same Auld Lang Syne; the other is Christmas Shoes.
Black people attack Foot Locker's and each other across the nation

The former is about two long-lost lovers reunited on a snowy Christmas Eve; the latter about a poor child desiring a pair of shoes for his dying mother, but he lacks the required funds to make the purchase. A man sees this transpire and buys them for the young boy.

I've long thought the concept of "what might have been?" is completely foreign to Black people; just as in 2009 and 2010, we know unequivocally that the song Christmas Shoes has no place in any discussion of Black people.

Once again, Black people rioted nationwide trying to acquire the new Air Jordan tennis shoe. Nationwide is a misuse of the term. Black people -- whose monthly tithing to the high church of Foot Locker keeps that company afloat -- fought, punched, kicked, bit, and waged mini-wars trying to acquire the new Air Jordan's:
The quest for some limited edition sneakers took an ugly turn early Friday morning outside the Mall at Stonecrest in Lithonia.
DeKalb police say several people have been arrested , including one woman who left two young children in her car, after the new Nike Air Jordan 11 Concords went on sale.
Hundreds of people began lining up in the early hours at the Mall at Stonecrest to get their hands on a pair of Nike's new Michael Jordan sneakers. Several stores inside the mall were offering the sneakers.
Apparently, some people could not wait until the mall opened its doors at 8 a.m. Police were called to the scene.
DeKalb police responded with as many as 20 squad cars after a large crowd apparently made an illegal entry into the mall, breaking down the door. Police escorted most of the people back outside. At least four people were arrested in that incident.
Police say more arrests could come as a result of the break in.
According to police, one woman left two young children in her car in the mall parking lot. Officers with DeKalb police had to break her car window to get the children out. They say the woman's car had been in the parking lot for quite a while.
It wasn't just Atlanta, that glorious Black capitol city of America, where Black people battled one another and the police for the right to purchase Christmas Shoes for the less fortunate  to spend one/half of their monthly earnings on a pair of shoes for themselves.

The same happened in Washington where the only angels Black people hoped to encounter were the winged-God of victory courtesy of Phil Knight:
Police officers used pepper spray to break up fights within a group waiting snag a pair of the latest Air Jordan sneakers early Friday morning.

A crowd, estimated to be more than 1,000 people strong, was camped outside the Southcenter Shopping Mall ahead of the release of the retro Air Jordan XI Concords when the frenzy began.

A Q13 FOX News photographer on the scene said people were shoving each other and shouting at police before the mall opened. Four stores in the mall were selling the shoes. The crowd had started gathering around 2:00 a.m. and one store — Foot Locker — opened about 3:30 a.m.

It happened in Charlotte too:
Dozens of police officers had to break up fights and restore order at a local mall while shoppers were waiting for an overnight sale of a popular tennis shoe.

The disturbance started inside Carolina Place Mall just after 5am. Witnesses said as mall officials opened the mall doors, crowds of people pushed their way in.

"They almost took the door off the hinges," one shopper who didn't want to be identified said, "there were women with babies in their hands and they on their backs."

Shoppers were in line waiting for the re-release of the Air Jordan XI Concord tennis shoe at Foot Locker, Finish Line and Downtown Locker Room.
And Louisville:
Witnesses say Louisville Metro Police had to break up a fight early today at Jefferson Mall over the release of a new style of sneakers, but sources with the mall tell a very different story.

Metrosafe dispatchers told WDRB News they received a report of 75-100 people in a fight over pairs of the new Air Jordan Eleven Retro Concords.

One witness who was in the store told WDRB that a security guard was trampled by the crowd waiting for several shoe stores to open early. That claim could not be independently verified, as WDRB News was not allowed inside the mall.

Sources with the mall say they've talked to all of their security guards and no one was trampled.
At least eight police cars were on scene when WDRB arrived. Sources with the mall claim officers were already there to provide security. Dispatchers told WDRB News overnight that some units were dispatched to the mall after they received reports of unrest.

The new Air Jordans retail for $180 dollars and are very popular with so-called "sneaker-heads," who collect them.  One man tells WDRB he bought two pair of the shoes.  He sold one pair to another person in line for $260. Witnesses say Louisville Metro Police had to break up a fight early today at Jefferson Mall over the release of a new style of sneakers, but sources with the mall tell a very different story.
Every time I hear the song Christmas Shoes, I have to turn it off. It's a reminder that there are many people in poverty across this country that genuinely have good hearts, but have fallen on hard times. Many people whose parents would otherwise find gainful employment if Black-Run America (BRA) didn't exist.

Our wealth in America is redistributed to people -- yes, Black people -- who engage in this type of behavior on a daily basis, making malls no-go areas that inevitably close. I'd love to know the costs associated with policing these Black people across the nation on The Night the Air Jordan's Get Released. It's a yearly ritual by this point, and Foot Locker executives secretly love this stuff; after all, without Black people, who would even shop at the store?

The Air Jordan is named after them most odious athlete of all-time, Michael Jordan. Here's a good article that describes how the Nigga Rich Jordan acts now:
Michael Jordan has a reputation for being kind of a party animal. He likes to gamble, smoke cigars, and play golf. His Airness marches to the beat of his own drum, and doesn’t exactly give off the impression that he cares what people think about it.  According to Gossip Extra, those are the characteristics that have his future neighbors at Jack Nicklaus’ The Bear Club already annoyed.

“I don’t know which is worse,” a source inside the community said. “The half-smoked cigars in the grass or that fact that he rarely plays without a posse. I’ve seen him out there with 10 people and they’re hooting and hollering. The point of living in this place is that it’s quiet. The residents are seething but there isn’t much they can do about it.”

That certainly sounds like Mike.  Jordan hasn’t moved in yet, as his modest 37,000 square-foot home is still under construction.  His spokeswoman, Estee Portnoy, said that the above opinion is just that of one person and called Michael a “true gentleman.”  I wouldn’t go that far.  If the other residents are concerned about half-smoked cigars on the grass, they should make M.J. a bet that he can’t smoke his entire cigar and then throw the end of it in the rubbish. Or play him for it. We know he likes to golf and talk a little trash - even if it's with a former President. One thing he’ll never do is turn down a wager.

There are two songs around Christmas that I don't like hearing. One is Same Auld Lang Syne; the other is Christmas Shoes.

The song Christmas Shoes is one every one should listen to after watching the videos below of Black people rioting over Air Jordan's. It's a reminder that Freedom Failed.

Oh, there was a stampede in Indianapolis over the shoes. Thanks Black people, for once again showing us your "content of character" when it comes to Air Jordan's, and that it isn't isolated to Atlanta, Charlotte, Austin, or Indy, but a universally-shared trait among Black people nationwide. Oh, it happened in Detroit too. And there was gunfire, courtesy of Black people.

Why in the world do white people not engage in similar actions - fights, shootings, stabbings, riots with police - when they line up to purchase Apple's newest products, such as the iPad, iPhone or iPod?

Say it with me folks: It was Black People at Foot Locker's across the country that rioted over Air Jordan's. It is Black People that lacked civility and the ability to purchase these items in an orderly fashion. It is the Black Undertow that is responsible for making malls unsafe for people to shop.

The lines, hundred deep, of people willing to shell out $180 dollars for these shoes (and that is retail minimum; no telling how much they are paying on the street and on the Internet) defies logic. How can a population with a 36% unemployment rate for males between 18-34 years of age afford to spend this kind of money on shoes? I walked out of a Walmart and a Shoe Depot a few weeks ago and refused to buy any shoes because I couldn't find anything for under $25 that I liked, and these clowns are fighting each other for a pair of Air Jordans that I know they can't afford???

How am I supposed to feel sorry for black Americans when I see thousands of them across the country devour each other for a pathetic pair of shoes? How many of them need help with purchasing food, utilities, housing, medicine, etc...but still manage to find money to pay for these shoes? Where is the money coming from? It can't be from honest work and savings.

God Almighty! I've never spent more than 39.99 for a pair of athletic shoes. What's so great about Air Jordans?

I must say, though disgraceful the display, blacks never fail to amuse with their complete and utter stupidity.

Merry Christmas PK and to all supporters of this site! :)

Blood was shed at the mall by me (no mention of it in the local media) over those damn shoes.

BTW.. can they be purchased by using an EBT card?

I saw this story on the news this morning. They wouldn't talk about the fact that it was blacks...AGAIN. I knew it was a bunch of stupid porch monkeys. Only a dumb ass nig nog would spend 180 bucks for a pair of shoes. Clearly if you can afford a these shoes, you don't need EBT or welfare anymore, right?

The same black kids who got free lunches at my school used to kick the shit out of me with their expensive Jordans because I wore "buddies" from Payless. Now whenever a black person uses that excuse for black peoples behavior about how they are "poor" I can't help but think back to those memories, and it's especially aggravating to think that my parents skimped and saved and worked a combined 100+ hours a week to pay taxes to give these kids free lunches and overpriced shows. I hope they all die with those shoes on their feet as quickly as possible.

I had a pair of Dan Post cowboy boots one time, most comfortable shoes I ever owned cost me 280dollars But I aint never seen any cowboys or Rednecks like me fighting over them. And they say we all bleed red well monkeys bleed red too.

As I told one liberal friend of mine, it's quite difficult to get all weepy-eyed over "poverty" when it saunters past in $200 shoes. From the look on her face you would have thought that I had just dropped a turd in the punchbowl.

She fell back on the old "it's caused by poverty" canard. Sure, I agreed, a poverty of values.

Spare a thought for us poor unfortunates who live on the other side of the world. I live in a smaller Australian city but we still have a few Footlooker stores. I don't bother looking in that store anymore. In the past few years the shoes have become ridiculous. Trashy, ostentatious, glitzy. Not exactly appropriate for semi-rural Australia.

White privilidge allowed me to be in my bed at 3:30 in the morning, completely oblivious to the black national holiday that was underway.

Air Jordan day. This should be shown after every professional black victim goes on tv to spout their drivel of just how bad blacks have it. Rioting for shoes. Rioting for the opportunity to buy, steal or rob someone of shoes. 200 dollar shoes. I wonder if this story will be on MSNBC's lefty bloc tonight.

I actually saw some video of blacks tearing the doors off of their hinges to invade the mall.

Looks like the guy who wrote Ron Paul's newsletter was spot on. Perhaps he should run for president.

When I saw this on Fox News earlier today the first thing I thought of was this site. Of course, they didn't mention the blacks. What is really funny is that you can sell these shoes for 500 dollars online, but I highly doubt any of these negroes will even consider that.

It's rather incredible the Highland Mall in Austin didn't have a mass chimpout-this is the same mall that was closed early one fine Saturday afternoon thanks to crowds of youfs from the Texas Relays making nuisances of themselves. That was 3 or 4 years back, and a lot of lessons have been learned since.

It may be that Highland learned, and laid on a lot of extra security in advance of the shoe sale.

PK,you might keep an eye out this spring, for those Texas Relays I mentioned. This last year was pretty tame, but the year or two before last year,it was an utterly hilarious spectacle. A lot of bars and entertainment venues in Austin just locked to doors for the relay weekend, and the fun part was listening to all of these club owners and managers trying to explain why they really weren't being all rayciss for doing what just about any sensible individual would do in their shoes.

The circumlocutions weren't quite up to the standards used by the State Legislature, but I figure since the lege gets paid to lie and the club managers get paid to run beer joints, they get an "E" for effort.

One Christmas song I despise is "Do They Know It's Christmas" by Band Aid. That was cut in 1984, but I have noticed that over the last three Christmas seasons, including this one, it has gotten more and more play on the local stations that go All Christmas.

Why are we supposed to care that black Africans are unaware that it's Christmas? After all, Christmas's roots are in the winter solstice, and one must live far enough away from the equator for the shortest day of the year to be significantly shorter and colder than the longest day of the year to attach any significance to the winter solstice.

I like basketball shoes very much for casual wear. I buy LA Gear on sale at Big 5 for around $24 or so. Because they are not worth more than that -- all athletic shoes are made in China or Vietnam (check the label) by cheap labor and the same materials.

[Bob Lutz of "Car Guys vs. Bean Counters: the Struggle for the Soul of American Business" notes that the parts cost of a Chevy Malibu is only 3% less than that of a BMW 3 series, and he should know having been a VP in charge of production at both.]

That rioting over shoes worth no more than $24 is proof positive of the lack of ability of most Black people to do the most minimal research and come up with the appropriate conclusion. Are basketball shoes nice to wear, comfortable, and supportive for everyday wear? Sure. Are they worth $180? Hell no. You can get the same type of shoe onsale for $24 literally at Big 5.

LOL, 180 bucks for those hideous shoes? Leave it to negroes, always known for their modest fashion sense.I could see a darkie dressed in these below a purple and gold running suit with gold chains weighing his chicken neck into the position of the primitive man he is.

These savages riot over everything. They riot when Popeye's is running out of legs and thighs, they riot over shoes, they riot over grape soda, they riot for any reason at all.

Many white idiots still believe that "not all" negroes are so violent and uncontrollable but anyone with an ounce of sense has noticed even the ones acting half civilized dressed in a three piece suit will devolve to a wild jungle animal in milliseconds when provoked--and they are provoked by just about anything, as noted above.

I hate to say it but I honestly believe this will continue, and must continue to a bitter end, before people say enough.

When the day of drawing the line in the sand arrives we must hold the white liberals accountable for allowing the destruction they helped create. As far as I am concerned they are as guilty as the get away driver is of a bank robbery, or a guy who throws a couple of punches and then lets his friend next to him to stab or empty a clip into a victims head. Murder is murder, if you had your hand in it--you swing.

We are dealing with violent primates.

This image of the impoverished US black is an obscene myth: they lack for nothing in this country, including fashionable crap.
It gets worse: I noticed young blacks this year in areas of NYC frequented by stupid European tourists, on subways, in fasionable SOHO, clipboard in hand, asking shoppers if they'd be willing to support their 'after-school basketball league', who knows where: one week it's Harlem, the next Patterson, NJ, etc.
I started to notice the shoes these 'impoverished' kids were wearing: spotless, brand-new Jordans. Having no idea what these cost, I almost hit the floor when I checked the tag: $200. That's food for a month, or the gas bill, or electric bill, for a family.
And these SOB's are perfecting their BS con: 'please help us out'.

I might fight over my extremely well worn and very comfortable Ariat cowboy boots, but some Air Jordan's, you've got to be insane. Further proof of the sickness that's befallen this land. Nike's marketing genius notwithstanding, I'd be willing to bet that blacks have to be some of the most childish people. They talk about their disdain for slavery and yet they prove over and over again that they are still slaves. Slaves to fashion, to government, to impulse.

They've traded the formal institution of slavery for THIS? I'm certainly proud of you folks, you've come a long way in the last hundred years.

If you ask them, blacks will tell you who they are. Watch the video on this too, it will make perfect sense:

"Gator Boots, with a pimped out Gucci suit
Ain't got no job, but I stay sharp
Can't pay my rent, cause all my money's spent
But that's okay, cause I'm still fly
Got a quarter tank gas in my new E-class
But that's alright cause I'm gonna ride
Got everything in my momma's name
But I'm hood rich da dada dada da..."

Percy Kittens Reloaded said "... and these clowns are fighting each other for a pair of Air Jordans that I know they can't afford???"

Yes, they can. The productive of our society are buying their groceries, their phone service, their housing, and three squares a day for their bastard children. That leaves a lot of "discretionary income" in their baggy trousers.

In short: no. I am a Mac-head but don't buy on introduction day. I have, however, been to the Apple stores when there IS a product intro, and the lines are orderly, and everyone seems to be having a very good time.

Lithonia: "town of stone". It is not some made-up ghetto name like Marjerine, Klowreen, or Klittorice.

It is also the brand name of a quite good (and US-made) line of light fixtures.

I agree with most posts on here. Basically blacks are:

a. Children
b. Have no impulse control
c. Not frugal
d. Violent
e. Lack basic respect even for each other

And we expect them to act differently around us or at the workplace or anywhere in society? Please. For those of you who haven't seen already check out the basketball court riot between two schools in Baltimore and D.C. Also check the story where a 14 year old nigger boy killed his own caretaker grandmother.

Done. I'm not going into Nigger City on Christmas Eve to see what happens, probably not much will but we'll see how many e-mails I get.

I once tested an ad for scrap metal copper and got 137 e-mails, some doubled up, but most were unique senders. Hilarious, just make sure you don't use your regular e-mail address or you'll be blocking harassers. It's good to conduct these social experiments once in awhile.

I live in a relatively 50/50 white neighborhood in Oakland. The 50% white is old hippies from Bezerkely. I was watching from the coffee shop across the street from Footlocker. The comments I was hearing from the old hippies where, well, racist. The riot that broke out in this small neighborhood shopping district brought on 6 cop cars with 2 cops each. So the city that is on the verge of bankruptcy, had to pay 12 cops to try and get order for about 3 hours. I wonder how much that cost the city? My friend, a recovering DWL, thought he saw a white face in the mob. It turned out to be a cop (phew!). Most of these animals looked like they had no use for athletic shoes as I doubt they had ever seen the inside of a gym. The one I saw crossing the street, looked like a gorilla with his dred-weave and his pants around his ankles. Hugest thing I ever saw, I thought he should learn to walk with one knuckle over the other. But animals do not ever act like this. Tomorrow I work in a soup kitchen in west Oakland. I wonder how many of the Jordan’s I will see in the clientele? If the sperm and egg donor were with them, they didn’t act any better.

Stuff Black People Don't Like: Can you supply a link?

I think that Anonymous (December 24, 2011 3:51 PM) is referring to the Tottenham riots in Britain.

This article at Game Front debunks the notion that Grand Theft Auto was in any way responsible for the mayhem that saw 3,100 people arrested and some £200 million (USD$311 million) worth of property damage.

Its actual trigger was the fatal shooting of Mark Duggan by Metropolitan Police Service firearms officers on 4 August 2011.

I guess you guys already forgot about all the rioting, robbing, and violence that erupted over the release of that MMOFPS game that was released not long ago. Did you? Really?

Either you supply an actual cite from a reliable news source or piss off.

And we can talk theory on if it was committed by white or black people. I'd say mostly white because--well per a cliche you all will use, "blacks" don't play FPSes, they play sports games. And it's kinda true.

If, indeed, you are making mention of the Tottenham riots, then the vast majority of looters and arsonists were people of color.

From Wikipedia: (salt to taste)

Some commentators remarked on the apparently high proportion of black people involved in the riots and took the view that there was a disproportionately high number of rioters who were black, compared to the overall demographics of the United Kingdom. In October 2011 a report was published by the Ministry of Justice providing demographic statistics of the people charged over participation the riots. Overall, 46% of people brought before a courtroom were black, disproportionate to the average UK population; however the figures revealed varying demographics in different areas when compared to local populations. For example in Haringey, the figures revealed that 55% of defendants in court over riot-related charges were black, compared to a 17% black population; but in Salford, 94% of rioters in court were white, compared to an 88% white population. Additionally, looters from 44 foreign countries were jailed, with Jamaicans representing the largest group but also including Somalians, Poles, Colombians, Iraqis, Congolese, Vietnamese and Zimbabweans.

The Wikipedia article has complete footnotes tracing these numbers back to a "Statistical bulletin on the public disorder of 6th to 9th August 2011 – October update". Ministry of Justice. 24 October 2011.

Note: no one was mentioning whether it was white or black people. And I'm sure lots of you wouldn't care to notice: it's not in your best interests or your job.

Either cough up a valid link or get stuffed.

Like most Blacks, Jaime Charleston displays some serious confusion regarding the difference between wants and needs.

It's fairly safe to say that Mr. Charleston's children need a father that hasn't been trampled to death far more than some insanely overpriced tennis shoes.

Then again, far too many Blacks display totally inverted values, that is, if they bother to display any at all.

Anonymous (December 26, 2011 2:52 PM): We've been trying to up-grade blacks for some 400+ years and they still act like they just stepped off the boat from equitorial Africa this morning.

I take a lot of heat from friends and also online because I believe in the perfectibility of mankind. That statement comes with a HUGE caveat, though.

It can only be achieved voluntarily.

No amount of legislated morality, theocratic rule or Totalitarian manipulation and coercion will ever reach such a lofty goal. There is no compulsory or de jure force that will ever accomplish this, otherwise, Sisyphean task.

American Blacks continue to prove, on an almost daily basis, that they adamantly refuse to be uplifted from their self-imposed misery. Whites could continue their efforts for another "400+ years" without seeing much change.

If the "Air Jordan Riots" prove anything, it is that Blacks have yet to, in any meaningful numbers, embrace their own perfectibility.

As .45Jack noted in the "Nike: Winged Goddess of Black People" thread:

Obviously, people who can afford $180 sneakers are not poor; so then how can DWL explain the chimp-out behavior by "middle-class" blacks?

This dilemma would challenge the reasoning abilities of most DWLs. It also poses the uncomfortable possibility that actual middle-class Blacks were participating in this chimp-out.

If escaping the ghetto still does not mitigate this sort of primitive behavior, then expecting Whites to tolerate even a shred of it in their midst is incomprehensible.

I will use a somewhat rude analogy posed by a contributor at another forum.

If you take a gallon of some nice vanilla ice cream and stir in a cup or two of shit, is it still ice cream? Obviously not!

How about if you stir in only a spoonful of shit? Is it still ice cream then?

It's beginning to look like desegregation parallels the ice cream analogy with disturbing accuracy.

To SBPDL,

Isn't Lafayette Square Mall on the Deadmalls.com feature? Here's the Deadmalls.com feature concerning Lafayette Square Mall in Indianapolis:

Kory's Commentary:
Posted September 7, 2005 (user submitted)

"I remember Lafayette Square Mall being the place to be back in the day. When I was a child in the early 1990's, my mother would take me to Lafayette Square to go shopping. Of all the malls, Lafayette Square was the most convenient. It is located 4 miles northwest of downtown Indianapolis on Lafayette Road. I say it was convenient because we did not have a car, and Lafayette Square had convenient bus service to the mall every 15-30 minutes. Because of its convenience we were avid shoppers there.

My memories of Lafayette Square circa 1992 are this: A large mall, with about 100 or so stores and shops. At the time, it was anchored by Sears, J.C.Penney, Lazarus, L.S.Ayres, Montgomery Ward, and G.C.Murphy. Other notable stores include Hook's drugs, restaurants like Orange Julius and Wendy's, and several kiosks.

(Continue)

La Reyna said...

(Continued)

"I have distinct memories of the mall area itself. Directly across the street was a Cub Foods. Cub was a mega supermarket chain based in the midwest. It was strategically placed across from the mall; shoppers could enjoy themselves at Lafayette Square, then head across to Cub for some groceries. Cub reached its peak around 1992 or 1993; more on Cub later.

Anyway, also near the mall was several chain strip malls, like Lafayette Place, which had stores like Phar-Mor (which has since closed) and Venture (which also closed). There were also movie cinemas nearby, like Cinema IV-V-VI, which could only be reached by bridge behind the back of the mall parking lot.

Sadly, the mall started its downfall in the mid-90's. First, G.C. Murphy closed around 1994. Next, the cinema just to the right of the mall's main entrance closed and was replaced by an Old Navy, which has since closed, too. Then, the Loews cinema to the north of the Sears wing closed. (There was a cinema located on Georgetown Road just north of Lafayette Square that closed sometime in the mid to late 1980's.) The cinema behind the mall parking lot parallel to I-65 closed as well. This set of a chain reaction that indicated Lafayette Square was in trouble.

By the late 1990's, desperate attempts to revitalize the mall were in full effect. Since 1995, shoppers started heading in flocks downtown to the much, MUCH better Circle Centre mall. Many headed north to Castleton Square, a mall much larger and more prosperous than Lafayette Square. At one time, the two malls were rivals.

La Reyna said...

(continued)

"A food court was added in 1997 that featured a McDonalds, Luca Pizza, Cinnabon, Wok-Right-In, Nick's Gyros, and Charley's Steakery. Also in 1997, the entrances to the mall were redesigned and the mall's interior underwent a dramatic renovation. Around 1998, Hook's Drugs (now CVS) closed and a Kittle's furniture store opened in its place. From 1998-2001, the mall actually did well again.

Then, in 2001, the Cub Foods located across from the mall closed suddenly due to slowing sales. A Hardees restaurant located next to the supermarket closed. Meanwhile, 4 blocks south on Lafayette Road, the K-Mart which occupied the former Venture space was remodeled into a Super K-Mart. Nine months later, not surprisingly, it closed. Waccamaw, which occupied the Murphy store, closed. The mall itself became a haven for urban stores as white shoppers left for much better malls like the ones named above. Blacks continued to shop at the mall, leading to all kinds of theft and robbery problems. The mall was dubbed "Lafayette Scare" due to all the thefts and robberies. In 2003, Lazarus closed its doors, followed by J.C.Penney, longtime mall anchor since it opened in 1968. MCL Cafeteria, a longtime mall tenant, closed its doors.

So what helped hurt Lafayette Square? The influx of more urban shoppers, as well as a new downtown mall, considered by many to be the best in America. Sales across the entire region that slowed through the 1990's. Even though Lafayette Square is still near capacity in terms of its tenants and shoppers, the mall is destined to a fate similar to that of Eastgate. Unlike Lafayette Square, Washington Square and Glendale were both dying malls in the late 1990's that re-emerged from the dead. Even today, Glendale, Washington Square, and Lafayette Square still do not have half the shoppers they had in the 1980's, and so, they are destined for plywood. "-From Kory

Here's Lafayette Square Mall's directory, full of urban stores and cheap knick-knack shops. There are very few brand-name stores such as Children's Place.
