"Because We Live Here"

"Because we live here."
New column over at VDare.com is a brief look at the new Red Dawn remake movie in theaters today, and a much longer look at the man who directed/wrote the 1984 Red Dawn -- John Milius [“I Would Have Done It About Mexico.” American Hero John Milius Denounces RED DAWN Remake, VDare, 11-21-12]:
Well, don’t worry: in the upcoming remake of Red Dawn, the cast has the Politically Correct mandated diversity that we’ve come to love and expect from Hollywood.
More significantly, and ignominiously, the original story of the Chinese invading America—standing in for the now defunct USSR from the first film—was scrapped after filming was finished, with the North Koreans (!!) digitally interpolated...so as not to offend our Chinese overlords. [‘Red Dawn’ Villains Switched from China to North Korea, ScreenRants.com, November 21, 2011]
Milius had already blasted the upcoming remake, which he deemed completely unnecessary. 24 Frames’ Rachel Abramowitz reported:
"I think it’s a stupid thing to do. The movie is not very old," says Milius, who’s not involved in the new film but was given a chance to read the new script. "It was terrible. There was a strange feeling to the whole thing. They were fans of the movie so they put in stuff they thought was neat. It’s all about neat action scenes, and has nothing to do with story."
In the original film, the Soviet Union has invaded the continental United States, and a group of young men and women (Patrick Swayze, Charlie Sheen, Jennifer Grey) band together as a guerrilla group, nicknamed the Wolverines, to fight off the occupiers. In the 2010 edition, directed by Dan Bradley and starring Chris Hemsworth and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, the villains are the Chinese.
While the new baddies might tap into American fears about a rising China, to Milius it makes little political sense. “There’s only one example in 4,000 years of Chinese territorial adventurism, and that was in 1979, when they invaded Vietnam, and to put it mildly they got their [butts] handed to them,“ says Milius, noting that China built a wall to separate itself from invaders. “Why would China want us? They sell us stuff. We’re a market. I would have done it about Mexico." [ Original 'Red Dawn' director takes aim at the remake, March 26, 2010]
Mexico, eh? Judging by the state of California, Arizona, Texas and, increasingly, the entire United States, Milius might be onto something.
Read the rest there. Comment on it here. Just remember Milius is known for writing some of the most gripping dialogue in all of American cinema history.

But one line uttered with righteous indignation from Patrick Swayze in the original Red Dawn is all that matters: "Because we live here."

North Korea? Bwahaha Their dear leader doesn't stand a chance against our Dear Leader who is the messiah! Hussein is the one! Did you see where Hussein the Zero sent shillary to the sand box to plea for calm and Hamas blew up a bus and dragged an executed suspected spy through the street. I thought the world loved us again since Hussein the Zero was elected. As for that corn studded turd Red Dawn redux. I won't be watching even when it is on cable in about two months.

Milius is an interesting character. In terms of his Jewish background, his view is more in line with those of an Israeli than the usual Marxist type one encounters in the west. I'm frankly a little surprised he was permitted to have any sort of career in Hollywood. Keep in mind that was three decades ago, so things might not have been so hopelessly rigged as they are now.

However, why does Hollywood even have to be involved? Technology now exists which would enable anyone seriously interested to create movies as long as one is able to learn the craft, do the hard work and actually produce something. It's sort of an interesting parallel to what PK has done with his books via Amazon's CreateSpace. Even in 1982, a book like PK's would have been rejected by all but a couple of fringe publishers. There would have been no sales to speak of because such a book would not have been allowed into the distribution network of brick-and-mortar bookstores. The publishing industry was under leftist control even in 1982.

The advent of the internet and on-demand printing has seriously undermined that network, so PK's book has a potential distribution which far exceeds anything he could have hoped for when Red Dawn was made.

Just by way of contrast, the Financial Times reports that in its first week, the latest Call of Duty game franchise sold more than $500 million -- in 24 hours!

And funny, the PC / Multicultural stuff isn't very prevalent there. Movies are so ... 1990s. Video Games is where the money is.

I think Milius is wrong about China. China is certainly capable of being expansionist. Lord McCartney opened up China in the late eighteenth century. Japan was opened up by Perry a couple decades later. But Japan westernized faster.

Tokugawa Japan was even more isolated and isolationist than Quing China yet part of their emulation of the West involved developing their own expansionist colonialist phase. Just as Japan which had had no contacts with any other nations for four hundred years transformed into a nation that invaded Manchuria and established it's own colonialist zone, so too could China.

No one can predict the future. Drawing lessons from past national behavior to future national behavior wasn't valid about Japan and is unlikely to be valid about China.

China seems expansionist towards Tibet and I half expect them to re-colonize South Africa. Milius is probably right about China directly attacking America but that's true for all nations not just China. His original screenplay was just on the edge of total implausibility even at the height of the Cold War and the USSR was in its ascendancy. Today our military is dominant as never before. A direct attack from North Korea is of course absurd. Talk about 'The Mouse That Roared'.

Substituting North Korea in for China? That's straight out of the video game 'Homefront', which ended up being even more mediocre than it should have been, because of that. (I've been to NK. They can barely keep food on people's plates and the lights on.)

Miliius was behind HBOs Rome, one of my favorite HBO shows. It depicted honor, duty, reverence for tradition, self-reliance, and even a dose of primitive capitalism.

Treme meanwhile, seems to be saying that white people formed posses and hunted down blacks. Treme is concerned with idolizing lazy, non-productive, and unlikeable characters.

The original Red Dawn, wow, I remember well when that came out. The press went berzerkers at the mere insinuation our commie friends had ill will towards us. I nearly lost friends for the sin of seeing the movie. Very decidedly non-PC!

Growing up in rural Central Pa we saw ourselves in the original Red Dawn. Most of us if not all of us had multiple guns in the house. We all had fatigues as they work well for hunting same with combat boots.
My small towns theater was filled for the full run of Red Dawn. As rememeber it everyone was very patriotic Republicans and Democrats things in the 80's were no so divided.

I wonder if the new Red Dawn will be recieved? Section 8 has increased the number of blacks in the safe happy little vally towns. Multiculturalism has hit. There has been a murder a lot more assaults and robberies.

I do not know how we survived so well before all this diversity?

Oh, the little movie theater is gone and boarded up. The factories are mostly all closed as with most of the little businesses. Before we had a bad section of town literally across the train tracks but reality it was only a handfull of run down houses. Now there are wholes sections of town that are concidered "bad".

Maybe a Red Dawn wouldn't be such a bad thing?

China in the 1400's sent a huge armada which almost reached East Africa, but was recalled to the Middle Kingdom, because of the death of the Emperor, I believe. If China had suceeded in making landfall in Africa, I am sure our history would be far different than today's.
I have often thought China would have no resistance in colonizing Africa full steam ahead with no apologies or protective cooloration. The "Lebensraum" mindset is brewing anew there. A case could be made in a public forum such as the UN that China is doing the world a favor by turning Central Africa into a granary once again, and given the anti-white legacy of present day African regimes and the immense amount of cash the Chinese possess, I see no interference to their schemes.

Sorry Pat, don't know all that much about the modern military esprit do you. No offense meant but our military, with the damned ROE can't beat small groups of stone age warriors and we are suffering disproportionate personnel and equipment losses to them. In some cases, weapons taken from the dead muslims haven't been used since the British colonial times though now, AK-47s are the dominant sort along with the ever popular RPG. Our military is now also mostly black ghetto thug blacksetball types and spanics, of the two, the spanics are the best.

The Chinese indeed have big plans for Africa. Nobody else wants it. I say good luck to them. Fer sure they don't give a shit about employee relations, and neither, truth be told, do Africans. Working is better than starving, and even they have figured out no black man is going to provide a job for them.

Why don't billionaires ever finance movies? I've always wondered that. You take some hedge fund mogul, some supergazillionaire worth billions - what would it be to him to throw a few hundred mil into a motion picture? So what if it lost money - those pricks gain and lose money constantly.

Imagine, a non-PC tale of revenge, set in Detroit, about a young white man who comes home from work one day to find pavement apes have murdered his family. They beat the charges; he decides to get his own kind of justice ....

I'd pay to see this.

The Chinese have taken over the San Francisco Bay Area, and, I assume, other parts of California. People who haven't noticed this should get out of the house occasionally and look at how many Chinese there are everywhere, and how they are opening new businesses faster than any other group. They're running for political office and winning, because of the huge Chinese-"American" vote. Yes, we are being invaded by the Chinese, and they've already won in California. The Mexicans are only for doing the work the Chinese don't want.

By the way, John Milius has pancreatic cancer. I will mourn his passing. There certainly haven't been many like him in Hollywood.

Pat Boyle said...

I see that I have at least one colleague who also thinks China may want to expand to China. This is more of an observation from physics rather than politics.

If nature does indeed abhor a vacuum then surely some nation will invade South Africa. China is the world's most populous nation and South Africa is for all practical purposes empty. At least in the senses of having an effective military and a working economy.

There is also the historical precedent of Zheng He in the early fifteenth century. China has been to Africa before.

One wonders if the whites of South Africa would fight for maintaining the current political order or would welcome a Chinese regime. One also wonders how Hollywood would react. Their first instinct would be to favor any communist regime. Maybe that will outweigh the race issue.

Africa has of course benefited tremendously from colonization by Europeans. China rather less so. Britain forced opium on the Chinese solely for the economic benefit of the English. They fought two wars to keep China hooked. This history gives them some immunity from charges that they are just rapacious colonizers. Maybe it won't work out this way and China will be universally condemned but at least China doesn't have to operate under the burden of 'white man's guilt'.

It's hard to understand how Africans can continue to occupy South Africa in the long run. The best land for human civilization is in a band about thirty to fifty degrees from the equator. South Africa is the only spot in black Africa in that band. Beijing, Tokyo and Seoul have roughly the same climate as Johannesburg. It should be very attractive real estate for East Asians.

But the Chinese will have to hurry. The Indians were run out of Africa by a series of black dictators - Idi Amin being the most famous. They may want to go back as conquerors. They are Caucasians but mostly not white. Maybe they can re-colonize without raising much of an international reaction.

Skip thinks I'm wrong about the effectiveness of our military. And of course if we choose to be ham strung by onerous Rules of Engagement then we are indeed weak.

But times change and rules can also be changed. I expect that America will at some point become more bellicose. That happened in the first World War and the Second World War.

Between the wars the American public was horrified by the prospect of planes bombing civilian cites. We began daylight bombing of only military targets. We were very circumspect. The Brits, who had been bombed themselves, did the area bombing of civilians. But we came around by the time we were just fighting Japan. Tokyo, Hiroshima and Nagasaki were the simple slaughter of helpless civilians. We are those same people. We will do the same to Tehran if the circumstances require it.

If things get bad, I have no doubt that we will again use all our forces with few restraints. And we have the forces, the weapons and the technology. The pattern has been that the aggressors mistake our reluctance to strike back as lack of courage. Then we adjust our thinking and annihilate them.

Actually, the vampire-squid owned British regime forced the opium on the Chinese for the benefit of the Sassoon squids. The main beneficiaries of the British colonial empire were the squid overlords, who basically bought the whole empire on the cheap in the wake of a scam announcement in the London press (by them) of Napoleon's great victory over Wellington at Waterloo in 1815. With the added squid racket and mass slaughter known as the 'war to end all wars', Britain was utterly bankrupt again by 1918 and back to where she was in 1815 - under squid ownership.

That all said, yes the Chinese appear to be making major inroads into Africa. I expect they will not have to obey PCMC rules, nor will the western Ministry of Truth be reporting on it.

One example of territorial adventurism in 4000 years? I guess Milnius never heard about the giant invasion fleet China under Ghenghis Khan sent to Japan (luckily for the Japanese it was destroyed by a freak typhoon), China's endless and ultimately successful attempts to subjugate Tibet, China's numerous invasions of Vietnam in earlier history, China's many invasions of Korea, or even the wars of invasion between early sovereign Chinese states that created China in the first place.

Just sayin'.

(Actually, Japan invaded Korea several times prior to Japan's opening to the West in 1868. I believe it also attacked China in the past, at least in the semi-official form of government-supported pirates –plausible deniability was important even back then. It also subjugated Okinawa which had formerly been an independent kingdom.)

True. The Pentagon has been very active in lobbying against any tightening (or, apparently, actual enforcement) of immigration laws, because they draw such a high proportion of their recruits from the latino community. These include foreign latino nationals / illegal aliens for whom US military becomes a pathway to citizenship.

I'm no authority on geopolitics, but it seems to me that when your highest military authorities believe that national security now depends on the military's ability to recruit illegal aliens, your nation is facing very serious problems.

Wasn't excessive dependence on foreign mercenaries in their military one of the factors in the collapse of Rome?

Given that Whites in SA are currently being slaughtered, with "death lists" of Boer farmers being found on captured murderers, that Whites are now legally excluded from many occupations, and that hundreds of thousands of impoverished, desperate Boers are living in refugee camps with nowhere to go and no jobs available, I think South African Whites would be overjoyed to see the Chinese come in. Anything would be better than what they have now. The current situation of South African Whites has numerous exact parallels with that of Jews in Germany around 1936.

"Free South Africa!" Blah, blah, blah. Yeah, that really worked out well, didn't it? In addition to the escalating genocide of Whites, most South African Blacks are worse off now than they were under Apartheid. For a real eye-opener, google "Death of Johannesburg" and check out the pictures.

Hiroshima and Nagasaki saved the lives of an estimated three million US servicemen and tens of millions of Japanese. The military junta that ran Japan was organizing the entire population to fight to the death against an invasion, with sticks and stones if need be. No viable opposition to the military leadership had existed within Japan for decades. They continued to reject all Allied demands to surrender, even after Hiroshima. When they went on stonewalling even after Nagasaki, it was finally the Emperor himself who initiated the surrender, not the Japanese military.

True. Liberalism and its associated pathologies have done more damage to America and Americans than any foreign army ever has. It wasn't the Russkies who turned large areas of Detroit, Gary, Rochester, etc. into lookalikes of Dresden, Germany circa 1945.

And the remedy for all our ills, according to Obama & Co., is the increased and intensified application of the exact same things that caused this damage in the first place.

Nice job voting there, American public. You made me appreciate your collective wisdom and feisty pioneer ability to always get it right in the end even more than before.

We are doomed.

pat asks:
What is a squid? This reference is beyond me.

The term refers to the banking aristocracy who basically controls all western governments and politics. The term was first popularized by writer Matt Taibbi in an article for Rolling Stone on the 2008 bailout of the "too big to fail" banks. The bankstas were termed "vampire-squids" which draws from the work of H.P. Lovelace: Cthulhu - the great vampire-squid and source of evil who sucks the life out of everything.

Some think vampire-squids are synonymous with TWMNBN (Those Who Must Not Be Named), a particular ethnic group who has been very prominent in banking over the centuries. There are vampire-squids with different origins, however. In the last six decades, for example, the House of Saud (the Osama-bin-Laden fantasy action figure's family) appear to have joined the ranks of the squid oligarchy.

TWMNBN are still present in the oligrachy and TWMNBN in general follow squid ideology to such an extent that they shut down Glenn Beck's exposé on a particular squid, George Soros, and the source of his vast fortune (aiding the Nazis in looting the assets of TWMNBN being shipped off to the camps). While the US government, Switzerland, Germany and many others have been sued by TWMNBN over the atrocities of the Nazi regime, Soros has never been sued by them, which is a very curious state of affairs indeed, and quite indicative of the enormous power exercised by the squids.

All that you left out was how the entire Japanese civilian population had been exhorted to commit suicide if America's land invasion was successful. Ergo, America's use of nuclear weapons successfully averted an even more massive death toll.

Indeed, the nuclear attacks were the most humane thing imaginable, yet few if any modern Americans or the academia will ever admit this. Supposedly, the Purple Hearts currently being awarded to our combatants in the Afghani and Iraqi conflicts were manufactured in 1945 in anticipation of massive American casualties arising from a land invasion of Japan.

As a sidebar, the abruptness of Japan's defeat was also crucial in that it precluded Soviet Russia from becoming engaged in the Pacific Theater. Imagine the outcome if one or more of the major Japanese islands had been overrun by the Soviets as they did with Eastern Germany. Modern history would be entirely different.

Again, for Japan's sake, just the fact that the annihilation of Hiroshima and Nagasaki preempted Soviet intervention was a boon to that entire nation.

Lastly, Nagasaki was where many of the planes and torpedoes used against Pearl Harbor were built. Paybacks can be a cast iron bi#&h.
