What is Black Fictional Heroes Month?

You knew it coming. Last year for Black History Month we brought you Black Fictional Heroes, an ode to the monumental roles Black people have had in Hollywood that have helped create positive images in the minds of movie goers, television viewers and those who consume vast amounts of popular culture.

A Black Virologist?
Though the real world produces a scarcity of positive examples of Black people (hence Spike Lee’s vain hope of locating Black men to become teachers, when less than 50 percent of Black males even graduate high school), Hollywood has helped craft the ideal (idol?) numinous negro to supplant the continuous  inundation of negative information that emanates from the Black community.

Television gave us The Cosby Effect, a by-product of that wonderfully fictional Black family that Americans invited into their homes on a weekly basis during the 1980s. Though 72 percent of Black children are born to single mothers (an incredibly high percent never makes it past the second trimester), the positive images from Bill Cosby’s sitcom denuded many of the negative stereotypes that white people held regarding Black people. “We’d love to have the Huxtable’s as neighbors,” thought many white people viewing The Cosby Show.

Though patterns of residential living suggest otherwise, The Cosby Effect is real. The power of Black Fictional Heroes is real.

NASA can scour America’s elite colleges for the next top Black engineer to no avail, but Hollywood can cast a Denzel Washington, Will Smith, Cuba Gooding Jr. or Morgan Freeman as a top virologist, mechanical engineer, molecular biologist or even God and viola, you have a fictional representative that millions upon millions will see.

What NASA can’t find, Hollywood and television can easily manufacture. That is the beauty of mass media, fabricating images that can create a massive amount of cognitive dissonance among the viewer. The media will constantly bemoan the lack of real-world Black architects, doctors, dentists, ballerinas, engineers, Nordic Gods, and even wine enthusiasts, but movies and television (even commercials) rarely has a shortage of Black people starring in roles reality simply can’t duplicate.

This is the idea behind Black Fictional Heroes. We at SBPDL love movies and through viewing hundreds if not thousands of films have come to admire the tenacity of casting directors in Hollywood who continue to perpetuate the idea of Black Fictional Heroes.

When you watch movies (or television and the commercials between programming) you allow your mind to enter a state of “increased suggestibility” that allows the implantation of the numinous negro phenomenon (what we call the Black Fictional Hero) to easily seep into your brain. Though sports provide the bulk of real-world positive examples of Black people, Hollywood works diligently to program the rest through a steady diet of fictional heroes:
Consider this passage from Four Arguments For The Elimination of Television by Jerry Mander:
I asked ... prominent psychologists, partly famous for their work with hypnotism, if they could define the TV experience as hypnotic and, if so, what that meant. I described to each the concrete details of what goes on between viewer and television set: dark room, eyes still, body quiet, looking at light that is flickering different ways, sounds contained to narrow ranges and so on. Dr. Freda Morris (former professor of medical psychology at UCLA and author of several books on hypnosis) said, "It sounds like you are giving a course outline in hypnotic trance induction."

Dr. Ernest Hilgard, who directs Stanford University's research program in hypnosis and the author of the most widely used texts in the field (said), "Sitting quietly, with no sensory inputs aside from the screen, no orientating outside the television set is itself capable of getting people to set aside ordinary reality, allowing the substitution of some other reality the set may offer. You can get so imaginatively involved that alternates temporarily fade away. A hypnotist doesn't have to be interesting. He can use an ordinary voice, and if the effect is to quiet the person, he can invite them into a situation where they can follow his words or actions and then release their imagination along the lines he suggests. Then they drift into hypnosis."

Now, if anyone were really honest about this, how could they say that the typical watching of television doesn't fit the same conditions necessary for hypnosis? Of course, some people will scoff at the idea that hypnosis is anything but Quack Science; for those I suggest researching the Department of the Ministry of Truth as described in George Orwell's Nineteen-Eighty-Four or Soma as referred to in Aldous Huxley's Brave New World. I suggest researching these two only if I can get those of you who still believe television is good or neutral to turn it off for a moment to bother to pick up and read a book.

The point of this is to show that television is a form of hypnosis. Hypnosis is described as "suspension of the critical factor" which expands on the idea of "increased suggestibility." A person who is hypnotized may accept statements as true that he or she would normally reject…

As I stated in my article (and confirmed by Marie Winn's book The Plug-In Drug) it is not what is on television that is bad, it is not the content that is damaging; it is the mere act of watching television that is harmful. Television is a displacement of time. It is a huge waste of time — in a hypnotic state — that implants other people's messages into the viewer's head.

Think about this: how often do you see movies or television shows where the villain is Black? Though Thug Report showcases the true color of crime, Hollywood would have you believe that only white guys are actively engaging in criminality. Television shows such as Law and Order utilize real-life crimes as plots, yet switch the races from Black culprit to white to ensure that people will watch.

The nightly newscasts that turn into veritable into Thug Report’s is a reality that most people find difficult to live in (though most move flee the problems by moving to whitopia’s), so TV shows and movies constantly manufacture white villains and criminals to root against, while a Black cop becomes the hero.
From the Super Soaker to creating Batman's arsenal

Ask yourself: How many movies or television shows have you ever seen where the Black guy was the villain? In Mission Impossible III, it was teased that Lawrence Fishburne’s character was a rouge member of the IMF, a double-agent for a terrorist cell. Instead, Billy Crudup’s white character was the traitor. To make it worse, he dared suggest Fishburne’s character (Brassel) got the job as head of the IMF because he was an under-qualified Black man, signifying his true immorality:

(Musgrave reveals himself to be the traitor)
Ethan: You told him. You told Davian Lindsey was coming, that's how he knew.
Musgrave: I thought you could get her back. But I wasn't going to let all people, to let Brassel to undo the work I've done. I took action, Ethan. On the behalf of all working families of America, the Army force, the white house. I've had enough of Brassel and his sanctimony. IMF director, he's an affirmative action poster boy.

One of the lone recent movies where the bad guy is Black happens to be Unbreakable. Mr. Glass, played by Samuel L. Jackson, is a super-villain who pulls off acts of terrorism in a bid to find an unbreakable person.

What other television show or movie made recently has a Black antagonist? Movies where they save the world come out routinely, as do movies with a Black person portraying the President of the United States (funny that most of them are president when the world is ending). Name some that have Black bad guys.

Now come up with movies or television shows that have a Black person portraying the moral compass, always there with sage advice or a brilliant new intention. In the real world, the primary invention we have courtesy of Black people is the Super Soaker. In movies, the inventions of Black people help bring about artificial intelligence and the destruction of the world.

This Web site has documented Black Run America (BRA) for almost two years, a tyrannical ideology that governs every aspect of life in the former United States. It seeks to remove any and all vestiges of a once prosperous nation, and in movies we even see history under attack.

Why else would Morgan Freeman be cast in a Robin Hood movie? Because people believe movies and television are an extension of reality and perceive history to be accurately portrayed in them. Though England had almost no Black people in the nation as little as 50 years ago, it makes perfect sense for Freeman to be in 12th century Britain when you apply logic utilized by Hollywood.

Same goes for a Black person playing a Nordic God in Thor, or even a Greek God in Percy Jackson: The Lighting Thief.

Black people provide an endless comedy of errors in the real-world, though Hollywood and television work overtime to create positive examples of Black people through Black Fictional Heroes and compensate for the reality's deficiencies.

Search the archives for last years inductees and suggest new entrants into this illustrious Hall of Fame. Men like Morgan Freeman, Will Smith, Denzel Washington and Eddie Murphy have done more to create positive examples of Black people through their film roles then any bus boycott or civil rights speech ever could dream of replicating.

We will be highlighting Black Fictional Heroes all month, these men and women who have done more to artificially create the perception of equality through their films and television roles then any of the saints you will learn about during Black history month.

Just remember that Black people are more likely to engage in heroism than whites. Then you'll understand why Black Fictional Heroes month is so important.

I watched TV for about 30 minutes today and saw not one but two commercials highlighting the joy of interracial love. Both commercials portrayed white women with black men.

One was a McDonald's commercial where an extremely attractive white girl in her early 20's was enjoying a hamburger with a young black man. The other more jarring commercial was for some Valentine's Day product where a 12 or 13 year old white girl is looking deep into the eyes of a black boy and they realize they are in love.

What a fucking disaster. It gets worse every day.

I just made the colossal mistake of watching the black idiot in the Thor video above.

Seriously, this guy did not form a single original thought. It was typical, predictable, mindless, black-talking-points, low-IQ race-card spew.

Do black people have a clue that they sound like a broken record stuck on repeat??

Two minutes of your life you'll never get back, be warned.

HA HA HA! Okay, this totally made my day, this quote from Anonymous. Those commercials are what you'd call 'progress'. Would you tell an Asian man to stop the crocodile tears when every single commercial with an Asian woman shows her with a white man?

I doubt it. Apparently, this is a 'Me. Man. Strong. She. Mine.' *beats chest* issue...

Instead of making fun of you, I do get your outrage. Black dudes should be warned that this advocation of interracial romance with white women comes with a price: you can sleep with the white girl but you won't be able to raise your voice at her in a normal domestic argument unless you intend to stand trial for rape.

My advice to all black men is to get your sister to fight your battles with your white girl. No matter how 'ghetto' the white girl seems, she'll never be ghetto enough to handle an argument with strong black people. She'll cry and play the victim (I've seen it; I've had many white girlfriends over the years).

And if you hit her--like all men have the propensity to do to women--watch out! Run to da ends of da urf, nigga, and when you get there, keep running, matter of fact, jump off into space! It's better to freeze or get hit by an asteroid then have to endure the punishment that will come your way if you hit a white gurl!!

Progress, sure.... but not enough progress yet. And the way film is done in this country, it is not going to help anything anytime soon.

It's a start, but don't get all excited. We're still 2-dimensional in white films or white made films.

My Stanford alum high yellow mother loooves white fairy tales and just the other day we had a huge argument over 'Ghosts'. She refused to acknowledge that the killer of Pat Swayze's character had to be minority because a minority killer makes white moviegoers identify more with Demi Moore's pain. Even subconsciously.

My mother refuses to get this, and is the typical black hater of the black radical. Most black people hate black radicals. I should note, my family is thoroughly black but my southern grandmother (RIP) loved her some white people! Good Lawd she loved them. And Latinos. Loved whites kids, even if they were trailer trash, took them in like stray cats. You wouldn't catch her with a little black kid.

But that's middle class and up black people for you...

A lot of white people are racist; if they say they aren't, test them, and they will get all KKK on you. As shown by this Anonymous' reaction to these sweet commercials. Tsk tsk tsk...

I meant to say:

"Would you tell an Asian man to stop the crocodile tears when every single commercial with an Asian woman shows her with a white man?

Yes, you would."

I don't know what the hell I was trying to say. It's been enough calculus for one night.

"And if you hit her--like all men have the propensity to do to women--watch out"

Well I have no doubt that is the norm in the black community but it is not how it is in my world. Reality is not your womens studies courses.

"I don't know what the hell I was trying to say. It's been enough calculus for one night."

Or too many bong hits.

A Black Man as Thor? Who the hell is going to buy a ticket to this? Paging Stan Lee get your ass up to my office, your fired. That reminds me of the Paul Mooney skit where he is reviewing movies with two blonde bimbos. They start talking about "The Last Samuri" starring Tom Cruise. Mooney shakes his head in frustration and says Hollywood is crazy. He then has an idea for a movie, "The Last Nigger on Earth" starring Tom Hanks. Classic Paul Mooney and very funny.

One more point, I also enjoy watching the ADT commercials where all these wild eyed white guys are kicking in doors doing all these home invasions. Thats about as believable as the Huxtaballs representing the typical black family.

You forgot:

1. Finish high school.
2. Stop committing so much murder, rape, and other violent crime.
3. Get married before having children.

I've often thought that there were two ways of looking at the world. The way Hollywood see's it & the way it REALLY is!.

In Hollywood every 3rd or 4th doctor or scientist is black, reality is profoundly different!. Blacks make up only a tiny fraction of these proffessions, far below their actual percentage of population (far below in ALL high gognitive skills btw!).. I work as a lab technician for a large silicon wafer manufacturer. I deal with engineers & technicians everyday. In the 11 years I have worked there I have NEVER seen (or even heard of) a black engineer/technician!..Not one!.

When I worked as a DoD-civilian for the USAF I used to operate/maintain flight simulators for F16 fighter pilots. In the 12 years I worked there I met hundreds, probably thousands of prospective pilots. Never once did I see or meet a black fighter pilot, not once!.

We ALL see this. We ALL know the game!..Don't worry folks, it won't last much longer. This system is in it's death throes!.

And from Desiree:

"And if you hit her--like all men have the propensity to do to women"....Maybe in the utterly sick & depraved world of the negro but not in any world I have ever known!. I have been married to my wife for almost 27 years & I cherish her!. I would NEVER hit her or even imagine hitting her!...Only in YOUR world is such a thing considered "normal".

If I go to see just one more movie where Denzel Washington, Morgan Freeman, Will Smith, or some such other black saves the world yet again, I am going to take a barf bag with me.
I will make sure I don't see the movie in Detroit, East St.Louis, Camden, Atlanta, Haiti, in some Paris suburb, or Africa. That would be too real.

Regarding the Thor video....I may, just may, have to boycott this movie, but I'll only boycott it if there is a visible movement to boycott it (otherwise I'm wasting my time).

The guy in the video making the case FOR Idris Elba as a Norse God...where were his rebuttal points? All I heard was : "Get over it. It's a damn movie." Of course it's "only a movie" when a black person takes the role that should be played by a white/caucasian actor. Reverse the situation and you'd have black people screaming bloody murder (remember when black people griped about Angelina Jolie playing Marianne Pearl?). Maybe that new movie that is being developed about MLK (by Spielberg?) should star Johnny Depp as Martin Luther King, and Charlize Theron as Coretta Scott King.

Here's my hero of the month: Bishop Eddie Long. Apparently he, and some of his church members invested a lot of money in a company called City Capital. The funds didn't earn any money, and apparently lost money. A few people are close to foreclosure or bankruptcy. Eddie Long wants the money back. Sounds perfectly reasonable to me. And while we're at it, maybe Las Vegas can refund everybody who has ever placed a losing bet.

Unbelievable story here:

http://www.ajc.com/news/dekalb/ephren-taylor-responds-to-824327.html

I think it's safe to say that Eddie Long screws more than just young boys in his church: he also screws old men and women out of retirement funds.

Diarrhea, like the low IQ, ghetto trash you are everything revolves around violence and upholding your hollow self-perceived pride. Anyone that has been around blacks know they are the most racist people around. They just lack the intelligence for self-examination or being able to perceive that all, all, races think of them as only slightly more evolved than baboons. Your people are failures on a global scale due solely to their low intelligence and complete inability to think and act rationally. This will never change and you will ever be capable of understanding this.

Since when has Hollywood ever been even half right in it's version of reality. Ever try to using kung fu in a street fight? If so you probably got your ass kicked. Ever try to shoot a hand gun sideways? You couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. Ever try to declare your love through some romantic act like they do in the movies? The chick probably laughed uncontrollably as you hid in shame.

Hollywood is in the business of selling an escape from reality, not an accurate portrayal of it.

The reality of Thugreport and the crime blotter does not sell tickets, but fantasies about a black scientist helping Bruce Wayne build gadgets to fight organized crime do.

I saw Spike Lee on the Chris Rock show a few years ago, discussing the paucity of quality black movies. Spike mentioned "Rosewood," as an example and Chris chastised him, "Rosewood was positive, Spike."

It was a good point. This positive image of blacks in the media can backfire. Think of "Training Day." What if Denzel had gone into the meaning of what his portrayal of a crooked cop meant in the metanarrative of black America's image. He would have lost a good role. Most actors tend to prefer to play villains and chew the scenery.

Ironically, black God himself Morgan Freeman said his favorite role was in "Street Smarts," with Christopher Reeve, where he plays a vicious pimp, not in one of those movies like "Shawshank" or "Bucket List," where he got to extoll the virtues of his white costar.

Incidentally, the man is now dating his step-granddaughter.

My experiences in a major corporation are similar to Don's. In 30 years, I never saw a single black engineer or technician working on high-tech machines, of which we had many. When something broke down, it was always white men who got things running again.

Anonymous said...

"Rosewood was positive, Spike."

Rosewood is probably the worst movie I've ever seen in my life. Absolutely horrible.

I had already suspected that John Singleton was a fluke, overrated hack, and this film confirmed it.

A few weeks ago at the church we are currently attending (decent sermons fairly scripture-based, but typically culturally liberal - I'm so ready to try somewhere else), the music minister made an announcement about a movie coming out that he strongly encouraged everyone to see. It's called "The Grace Card" (my, how subtle) and is about a racist White cop and his poor, suffering black partner, who is training to become a minister. Ho hum, another Hollywood story of the magic negro. Somehow I think I'll pass.

You know, SBPDL, you truly are providing a service by posting Desiree's diatribes. She is the perfect example of black dysfunction and intellectual limitations, combined with baseless self esteem and naked envy/hatred of Whites. As they say, you can take the savages out of da ghetto but you can't take the ghetto or savagery out of blacks.

I have a sneaky suspicion that this movie will bomb. So between this being a crappy movie that no one cares about and everyone else just downloading it free online, yes there will be a "visible movement" against the movie "Thor".

Personally, I think the comic book movie boom is over.

Thor, X-Men: First Class, Captain America and The Green Lantern will all under-perform.

However, I am Number 4 and Battle: Los Angeles will do great numbers.

If you are correct that Hallmark is hemorrhaging business because of computer technology, then a $300 per year customer will be missed.

The most honest portrayals in the media featuring the foul-breathed, lie-encrusted, short-wealth planning, sedentary cheap hustle of the sociopathic leeching black underclass are "The First 48" (90% black on black homicide) and "Hardcore Pawn" (pawn and loan in 8 Mile Detroit).

These fearless and brilliant shows drive home the message that members of the civil society have been aware of for decades: There IS a difference.

Percy Kittens Reloaded said...

Hallmark lost my business when they gave in to the Los Angeles chapter of the NAACP and apologized for offending anyone who thought an astronomy-based greeting card referring to "black holes" was actually code for "black ho's", and promptly pulled the cards.

I will not give one dime, not one penny, to companies that cower and cater to the prejudices and bigotry of organizations who make up false claims of oppression.

I do agree that the comic book boom has probably peaked, but there is still a lot of life left in it. However, that life can be shortened or extended depending upon the way Hollywood plays it. SUPERMAN RETURNS shied away from his American roots, and it probably cost the film a little bit of money (maybe not a whole lot), and if CAPTAIN AMERICA tries to pull the same stunt, it will suffer. Of all the comic book movies coming out this summer, conservatives will be most definitely be watching CAPTAIN AMERICA and looking for signs of multiculturalism, "diversity", anti-Americanism, moral relativism, and any sort of apology of sheepish attitude about America being great.

I want to see THOR (I love Norway and intend to move there), but I have to admit, Idris Elba's presence angers me. I loved him in THE OFFICE, but I don't like having multiculturalism shoved down my throat, especially when it's mostly one way, with all taking and no giving.

And it's clearly not just a race issue, if at all. There are fans in an uproar that British actor Henry Cavill is going to play Superman in next year's MAN OF STEEL, and Cavill is white.

Stuff Black People Don't Like said...

I've just started watching THE WIRE. Elba is good in that show, but I do agree he was fun to watch in THE OFFICE.

However, my problem with THE OFFICE is simple: it is the ultimate personification of a DWL world view.

Take that back. PARKS and RECREATION and 30 ROCK are the ultimate DWL shows on the epitome of a DWL network, NBC.

It's really about money. Black heroes and leading men get more black audiences into the theaters. It's also about erasing the European dominance in America. But...

... this is actually a good thing. The more of these black heros are invented, the more the disparities between fact and fiction will be highlighted. Trust me. Everyone in America might think that Greek Gods were black. But nobody in Greece believes it. Just like nobody really believes the ancient Egyptians who built the pyramids were black. Except stupid blacks.

What if Hollywood made a movie where a giant three-way race war broke out in America in the year 2040. And the script showcased all the grievances of all sides and dealt with the history of it all????

The reaction would be wild to witness. You'd have blacks burning down theaters.

Anonymous said...

"It's really about money."

I disagree.

Case in point: "The Princess And The Frog".

In an asinine effort to be politically correct, Disney forfeited millions.

I predict "Thor" to perform similarly.

I don't recall seeing that clip from STRANGERS WITH CANDY when this article first went up, but for those who don't know, my screen name was taken from that episode (since Desiree asked "What the hell kind of name is Percy Kittens?" a few weeks ago). The character played by Tim Meadows was called Percy Kittens, and he was brought in as a guidance counselor for that episode to help Flatpoint High School deal with the aftermath of the word "NIGGER" being spray-painted on the wall.

I don't know if SBPDL has watched the entire episode, but the one good thing about it was that during Percy's investigation he uncovered all sorts of racism by the very people who claimed to be against racism: DWL's. You just have to see it to get it.

The key to any movie's success is the ability to project the "suspension of disbelief" -- that is, to make the viewer believe the story is "true" or "believable" on some level. But, I usually lose interest in a movie when I see something as ridiculous as black scientists, or black computer engineers, or black inventors. They are so rare to most audiences that you cannot possibly suspend your disbelief. (And I usually turn the channel -- same thing when I see interracial couples.)

I remember groaning the first time I watched "Terminator" and it turned out that the guy that invented all the tech for the robots was a black guy. Luckily, the believability returned when he began to shake and cringe in abject fear when faced with death. Excellent reality-based performance there!

I wonder how many advertisers are aware that so many of us turn the channel when they show this kind of multicultural crap?
