Damon Evans and the Black Vocational Rule

Diversity. No word is more nebulous in the English language then this one, though achieving some form of it is the goal of every company, business and university in America. Institutions lacking the blessing of diversity are cause for immediate concern though one Harvard sociologist refused to publish major findings on the subject of diversity on the grounds it might lead to the erosion in the once-perceived invincible armor of the diversity movement.

One thing is for certain: Diversity is not an old, old wooden ship that was used in the Civil War era. Regardless of what diversity truly means, once a company has acquired a certain level of diversity, to undue this transition and back-peddle on such a noble commitment would be grounds for immediate concern.

The race to accumulate the most positive diversity points in Corporate and Collegiate America is a never-ending marathon that will ultimately lead to the displacement of every leadership position in that entity of people with ties to Pre-Obama America.

Black Run America requires enforcers to guarantee its continuation and the never-ending desire to obtain some elusive goal of diversity to brighten the employee payroll figures is a task that is at the forefront of all organizational objectives.

A corollary of the quest in pursuing diversity is that once the implementation of this mission has occurred, the hiring of a non-diverse employee can never transpire for that position.

If this happens, the commitment to diversity is over and a regression to the mean old days of Pre-Obama America (an era where diversity wasn’t a principle of every company and university, but striving for unquestioned excellence was such a principle) is afoot.

Black people are the pawns in the game of diversity, where Disingenuous White Liberals maneuver to pull the levers of power through a game of manipulation.

No pawn is more apparent than the former Athletic Director of the University of Georgia, Damon Evans. Hailed as the first Black Athletic Director of a Southeastern Conference (SEC) school, he presided over a multi-million dollar budget and replaced the legendary Vince Dooley in the role.

Becoming the figurehead for all of UGA athletics, Evans was confirmed to be one of the ultimate personifications of the dreaded Token Black in all of American business.

Once picked as the Sports Person of the Year by the Athens, Georgia newspaper, Evans was the athletic director of a university that is overwhelming white to the point of having this be an open embarrassment to the school:

As reported Tuesday in this newspaper, a trust report titled "Opportunity Adrift" ranks UGA last among the 50 flagship public universities in the United States in terms of the percentage of in-state minority and poor high-school graduates it enrolls. According to the report, 40 percent of this state's 2007 high school graduates were black, Hispanic or American Indian, but less than 10 percent of the university's freshman class for that year were minority students.

Though the school’s enrollment is 95 percent white, the football is more than 70 percent Black and has continually had disciplinary problems.

This article published in 2009 points to Evans moral strength and the importance of his leadership in helping the Georgia Bulldogs attain athletic excellence, never acknowledging that all 12 schools in the SEC are also enjoying the financial windfalls of being part of the SEC.

Mr. Evans was a paragon for those who push diversity, a model citizen and a loyal representative of the school. He attained the position of Athletic Director of a Predominately White Institution (PWI) and was viewed as an individual who could help the peaceful infusion of diversity into virtually every segment of society.

That all changed one fateful Buckhead night in July 2010 that threatens to weaken the diversity at UGA:

The police report from the Georgia State Patrol officer who arrested Damon Evans in Atlanta Wednesday and it’s a damning document for the Georgia athletics director.

According to the report, filed by GSP Officer Mark Cabe, Evans’ black BMW was weaving noticeably on Roswell Road, which initiated Cabe to U-turn his cruiser and execute a stop. After Evans pulled into a parking space at the corner of Roswell Road and Chastain Drive, Cabe reports that he “noticed that the subject had a pair of lady’s red panties between his legs.” Later in the report Evans admits that the panties belonged to his passenger, 28-year-old Courtney Fuhrmann of Atlanta.

“She took them off and I held them because I was just trying to get her home,” Evans said, according to police.

While trying to conduct a field sobriety test on Evans, Cabe reports that Fuhrmann got out of the passenger side of the car several times despite instructions from both the officer and from Evans to remain in the vehicle. After failing to obey a final warning, Fuhrmann was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.

“I have a young lady and she is intoxicated and I am just trying to get her home,” Evans reportedly told the officer.

Police report that Evans failed a field sobriety test. “Used his vehicle for balance” and “subject kept his left heel on the ground almost the entire test . . . after instructed (to hold it) approximately 6 inches of the ground,” reads the report.

Evans refused a breathalyzer, then began to plead with the officer.

“I am not trying to bribe you but I am the athletic director of the University of Georgia,” the officer reports.

“The subject admitted again that he’d been drinking and started crying,” McCabe writes. Evans asked the officer to take him to a motel.

“I am not going to bribe you but is there anything you can do without arresting me?,” Evans asked, according to police.

When off-loading Fuhrmann at the jail, the officer asked her how long she had been seeing Evans. “Only a week ago,” she replied, according to police.

Fuhrmann also stated: “I promise you one thing: He will get off. . . . It will be erased because he is the Athletic Director of UGA and he has that power.”

Upon dropping off Evans at the jail, “the subject began crying uncontrollably,” the police report says.

Evans resigned for the DUI (and for alleged infidelity) today, and with this the only Black Athletic Director in the SEC is no more. Evans even attempted to bribe the officer who arrested him, while the red panties of another woman rested comfortably in his lap!

His tenure that was greeted with so much enthusiasm for the diversity-addition he brought immediately upon hire now ends thanks to one alcohol fueled evening that displaces diversity atop the head of UGA’s athletic department. Therein lays the true casualty in this sordid tale of DUI, disloyalty and booze – diversity.

Once you hire a Black person for a position and once that Black person’s employment is terminated, or if they resign, a Black person of equal or lesser value must be immediately hired to replace them. If not, the commitment to diversity has been reneged upon and that business or university is forsaken its desire to be a model for diversity.

Call it the Black Vocational Rule of Diversity

Damon Evans is no more at the University of Georgia. Diversity cannot be another victim in this story. Evans, who told students not to drink and drive in a public service announcement, failed to take into account his own advice and in turn threatens the fragility of the diversity situation at UGA.

The successor to Evans must be a Black person - as the Black Vocational Rule of Diversity mandates - or else the commitment to diversity by UGA has to be called into question. A school that is embarrassed by its overwhelming white student body (historically, the school has always been white, thus its nature is a PWI), must replace this unfortunate stain on its reputation by displacing white students with diversity.

Thus, the true nature of diversity. The displacement of white people with non-white people. But hey, at least we have college football to watch!

I love how you focus in on a few black folk, yet you don't even bother mentioning the relative ocean of disgraced white public figures. All under the clever assertion that this blog is actually about black people, when it is obviously about white peoples opinions about black people. It should be called "Stuff White People Think Black People Don't Like"...

Corruption and immoral behavior existed long before integration and diversity initiatives.

Here are some disgraced (mostly) white folks, just to balance out the equation a bit...

This is not an official entry. Only entries with the number sign (#) count as part of the growing list of SBPDL.

This is the introduction of the Black Vocational Rule of Diversity and Damon Evans exemplifies this notion perfectly:

"Once you hire a Black person in a high-profile position, upon their removal due to firing, resignation or leaving, you must replace them with another Black person or else you will be deemed racist.

A commitment to diversity means setting aside certain jobs to Black people. Damon Evans was lauded for his fantastic job and then went out and got liquored up with a woman (who wasn't his wife) and tried to bribe his way out of the whole ordeal.

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/news/story?id=5350178

This post has nothing to do with anything but bringing to light the Black Vocational Rule of Diversity.

I'm not sure what the point of adding links to those websites where in your response, but thanks! Interesting reading.

Damon Evans was a DIVERSITY hire, plain and simple. Will UGA back peddle on their commitment to diversity now, or not?

Apparently at the time of his public statement above, he was not yet intending to resign, which I find amazing.

SBPDL, Evans' replacement will NOT be black, not in the SEC, that is a virtual certainty (see Sylvester Croom).

The point is Anon 1:24, with the signature off topic diatribe and laundry list of irrelevant links, is that we go out of our way to put a black in charge and Evans exposes himself as buffoon. The bottom line is that diversity hiring is fucking stupid. I work on a trading desk and I could give a crap less what color someone's skin is as long as they make money for the firm. An AD has the supremely important task of managing a multimillion dollar athletics program to grow school revenue and maximize alumni donations. This is a job that is too important to be assigned based off of an affirmative action quota, and is something that at the end of the day will be judged by one color, green.

SBPDL, you should know better than to argue with blacks and liberals. You are wasting fresh air. They will never ever get it. They will argue themselves into a big fat circle because they like the sound of their own voices. Most of the time they don't even consider your point. Just keep posting your precious gems, some of us are listening....and learning.

Why are famous black men so incapable of staying out of trouble? I mean geez dude.

Honestly, I don't think there would have been any harsh consequences if he had just been drinking and driving, but the whole 28 year old girl's panties in his lap thing...that put it over the edge. What a dumbshit.

At this point we pretty much expect black men to be unfaithful to their wives...thanks for reaffirming that Damon Evans.

Can anyone cite one speck of hard evidence of the benefits of 'diversity' that we have heard gushed about for years? Evidence of its harm can be seen - written in blood - from Iraq to India, from Serbia to Sudan, from Fiji to the Philippines. It is scary how easily so many people can be brainwashed by sheer repetition of a word.

Affirmative Action sort of reminds me of that old Vonnegut story "Harrison Bergeron."

One place people like to sniff out AA where it might not exist is in the case of Mein Obama. It also reeks of hypocrisy. Bush's father was head of the CIA, he was a member of Skull and Bones, and he was handed a company, which he promptly destroyed. On top of that he held a "C" average in school and ducked out of training exercises at a cushy post designed to keep him from getting hurt in Vietnam. No undue influence or advantages in all that, right?

Meanwhile, Obama is black so he has to be a recipient of diversity's fruits. He graduated magna cum laude, but nevermind that. He's black dammit.

Fair question.

If it is acceptable for Howard and other black schools to not only actively recruit based on race, but to also proudly refer to themselves as "black universities", then it should be perfectly acceptable for other "historically white" schools to do the same...one standard, irrespective of race.

"Meanwhile, Obama is black so he has to be a recipient of diversity's fruits. He graduated magna cum laude, but nevermind that. He's black dammit."

Just because he graduated from Harvard Law School magna cum laude doesn’t mean BO had a high GPA. It just means that after subtracting the students who graduated summa cum laude, of the remaining students, he graduated in the top 10% of his class. Theoretically, he could have had a C average.
Personally, he doesn't strike me as being unusually bright, but I'll admit I'm biased.
After all the media has done to build him up as an intellectual giant, it seems odd that he insists on keeping his college transcripts private.

Black Guy,

This is a good question. I have no issue with HBCU's. My problem is that those schools have no outreach efforts to attract diversity (i.e., white students), because diversity means replacing white.

I have written a couple articles about HBCU's. I feel bad for these schools, because the integration of college football ruined most of these institutions.

However, I did find one article about "reverse diversity" and HBCU's - Historically Black Colleges and Universities - that I think people here might find interesting.

http://www.sportressofblogitude.com/2010/03/11/historically-black-colleges-start-bowling-programs-and-a-bunch-of-white-students-began-enrolling/

This has been an entry I have been waiting to do, but it seems bowling is a way to attract white students to HBCU's.

Stuff Black People Don't Like said...

Black Guy,

You live in Los Angeles ( a beautifully place that I almost moved to right out of college four years ago ) and this entry might be a tad puzzeling.

To make a long story short, the AD that Evans replaced at UGA was Vince Dooley, a beloved figure in the state of Georgia.

He was coach during the integration of Georgia football and presided over the programs last National Title in the early 1980s.

He might be the most popular person in the state of Georgia still.

He was forced out by UGA President Mike Adams in 2004, and was replaced by Evans, an individual he personally groomed for the role.

Evans became the darling of diversity-enthusiasts everywhere, in charge of PWI's (remember, UGA is 95 percent white with a 99 percent white alumni base) athletic department - annually more than $67 million - and was constantly lauded as the future.

Well, the future ended dramatically for him on a fateful night in Buckhead, when he was pulled over by a cop and had a girl of Native American descent in the car with him (she is not white; don't ask me how I know, but I do know her) that was not his wife.

Indeed, her panties were curiously found in his lap as the police officer prepared to arrest him.

This story is a huge black-eye for UGA. Damon Evans was the media's darling, a Token Black - like Tiger Wood - who was articulate and could be called upon to address alumni gatherings in a congenial manner.

Why hypocrisy? Who said that you have to support one or the other? Maybe one doesn't like both Bush or Obama? Altho, Bush wasn't elected because of his skin color.

Bush never got any passess because of his skin color either. So.

Obama is where he is, because of his blackness.

Desiree said...

Hirsch is right. Bush was underqualified to be president and he got in because of connections. I don't think we can say the same about Obama.

It makes me wonder how many other white 'leaders' are really dumb as rocks but their white privilege, rich parents, and de facto connections got them through the door.

'Diversity hire'? So what?

The debate around affrimative action has been completely hijacked by white cry babies who are absolutely terrified of an upset in the status quo. Powerful, intelligent blacks, minorites, and women petrify them. So much so, in fact, that these whites have to say 'Well, these are diversity hires and they tend to always be underqualified.'

That's complete and utter bullshit. If I were a white CEO and they told me I needed to 'diversify' in terms of workers and they gave me quotas to fill, I would never hire underqualified PoC and women.

No one would do that unless they are just having them work unimportant jobs. Or, unless, these CEOs hire underqualifieds as a way to sabotage the whole goal of AA all in an attempt to end it. That is completely possible!

This whole debate is skewed! It's insane. AA was supposed to break up the white male hegemony in academics and the workplace, not to punish whitey.

My mother recieved a full scholarship to Stanford. I asked her was it because of AA. She said 'probably' but it didn't change the fact she had a 4.0GPA and was valedictorian of her HS and was in a multitude of extracurricular activities. All of this she managed while constantly moved around!

Wake the fuck up...

"Just because he graduated from Harvard Law School magna cum laude doesn’t mean BO had a high GPA. It just means that after subtracting the students who graduated summa cum laude, of the remaining students, he graduated in the top 10% of his class. Theoretically, he could have had a C average."

'Theoretically'? If that ambiguity helps you sleep at night, by all means please continue in your fantasy.

"Black people are the pawns in the game of diversity, where Disingenuous White Liberals maneuver to pull the levers of power through a game of manipulation."

Love that. Of course the Man controls everything, no matter his political leanings. Black people have been saying this for years and have been mocked. Yet you claim the same thing and believe yourself to be more valid? Hypocrisy, anyone?

Most seem to have the tendency of claiming that they individually are different somehow, thus disproving hundreds, thousands (millions?) of examples to the contrary. Strangely enough, even smart, educated black people seem to have this trait. It seems like you all are truly unable to grasp the big picture. Pure, honest objectivity does not seem to be your alls strong point.

As opposed to black privilage and affirmative action getting them through the door? Because dumb as rock blacks never ever get hired because they are black. Right.

Affirmative action is a big mess. It goes against what this country is supposed to be about. That is, getting by on your merit and not because you are black or female. But since blacks can hardly stand up against whites on their own merits, then they love to make excuses for the unconstitutional affirmative blacktion.

AA is not about punishing whites in particular. It was about ensuring that PoC and women--traditionally and institutionally kept out of academics and corporate America--had a fair shot in these venues. The constitution was written centuries ago; I wouldn't want to base a changing country on a centuries old piece of paper. You say AA isn't constitutional but neither is nepotism and cronyism, the de facto methods of getting in to schools and the workplace in this country for rich white kids and yuppies. That's what AA is for; it's to break up the white 'Boy's Club'.

How can you even call yourself a Christian, CWN? You are so hateful and sexist. when the Apostle Paul said there was neither rich nor poor, Jew nor Gentile, male nor femalie in Christ's Body, did you just ignore that?

Proper English? Did you think the Kennedys spoke 'proper English'? What about southerners or people from New York and Maine? I'm considered one of those people who have little to no distinguishable accent because I'm from the West Coast. Although Brits would think I have an accent and thus don't speak their idea of 'proper English'.

'Proper English' is as subjective as looking at clouds and making out shapes from them. Don't even start with that. Seriously.

If you have any proof as to how Obama is constitutionally illegitimate, please provide it, CWN. And don't go sourcing 'The Globe', you know, that tabloid from the supermarket. Their latest issue claimed they had proof he was a muslim or something and wasn't a US citizen. Don't even be tempted.

LOL! I rest my case. And you, oh great white one, had spell check on your side, yet you STILL failed.

I am a black male. I am of legal voting age and have been for some time.

I didn't vote for Barack Obama.

I don't support Barack Obama.

There are many others like me. (Perhaps we are in the minority, but what else is new? People will wake up in time.)

Barack Obama HAD to be 'elected' after the farce that was George W. Bush. Everyone with half a brain should be able to see that if they truly looked at the evidence. This country's collapse would have been accelerated had Business As Usual continued. Foreign Relations were far worse than they are now (though they are still poor, because the majority of the policies are still identical, the 'rights' almost uniform refusal to accept this obvious truth notwithstanding).

I'm also not concerned with affirmative action. Not only has it not 'helped' me, it hasn't 'helped' a single soul I know. In other words, I don't know anyone who has obtained any position due to affirmative action. I only know one gov employee and it was his prodigious script-writing skills that got him his job.

Anyway...

I suppose it depends on how you define "many".

Barry received about 95% of the black vote, and his approval among blacks remains over 90%.

The "many others" like you is a very small fraction of the overall.

"Barry received about 95% of the black vote, and his approval among blacks remains over 90%."

I'm fairly certain they haven't polled all black people. I'm absolutely certain they haven't polled the contingent that they worry might become "terrorists".

By many, I mean more than a few, not the majority. I personally think the majority of black people are only answering like that because of race while harboring doubts because he is, after all, a politician, and the hood is still fucked up.

I think it's a massive mistake for black people to get behind Obama as they've done. I still believe many more of us will wake up once they're done marveling at the novelty of having a black president. Even still, they might not be vocal about it right away because, yes, this society is still racist.

Maybe it's wishful thinking on my part. But I'm not deeply concerned with majority opinion anyway. There are the few who know, and I am of them.

And if you think the country is collapsing at aswift rate now wait until the riot cops start marching through the streets on a more regular basis. This will not be Obamas fault, however. What you are witnessing has been in the works for decades now.

Obama was [s]elected to calm the rising tide. It has receded some for now, real issues being replaced by smaller ones like the tea party and healthcare and gay marriage and abortion, but maybe it will become clear in the next decade.

Desiree,

You are simply making excuses for the racist affirmative blacktion. Pointing to bad behavior to justify bad behavior. How about getting rid of ALL bad behavior? You know, like letting people stand or fall based on their merits, like I said before.

The reason we are in such a mess as a country, is because people have been ignoring the constitution. The constitution does not change, nor should it. These are fundamental rights for all time. Not suggestions to be followed sometimes, but all the time. The very fact that you said that about the constitution shows how ignorant you are.

I am hateful and sexist? This coming from the militant colored girl who would talk about white dicks being too small? LOL, okie dokie.

Proper english is not about accents, but using the right words. Blacks have a terrible time using the right tenses. They use double negatives and made up slang. Ghetto fabulous talk. And this even includes supposed college graduates. White highschool dropouts speak better english. You be feelin me, Yo?

Obama is obviously not constitutionally legitimate. Not only was he not born in the United States. Even if he were born on the white house lawn he still could not be president. One of his parents was not an American citizen, and thus he is not "natural born". Both parents must be Americans. Plus, he has to this day never shown a birth certificate. He has only released a COLB which is said to be forged. So either way he is screwed. I am not biased, McCain would have been unconstitutional also.
